CNN’s Wingnut of the Week

This week the House is set to debate the “Federal Employees Paid Parental Leave Act of 2009” which would provide 4 weeks of PAID leave to federal government workers. At a time when public sector employees are already seeing their wages rise while private sector workers deal with the recession, bill sponsor Rep. Carolyn Maloney (D-NY) has the audacity to claim that the bill is revenue neutral. That claim inspired CNN to dub her the “Wingnut of the Week.” Watch:

Well…..In effect, she’s right. It won’t cost HER a red cent! After all, Congress gets cart blanche to spend ALL of OUR money and pay absolutely NONE of their own when it comes to government paid perks! Congress has a pass on the income taxes that the REST of us pay, in order to fund all of their “PETTING” projects. One good thing could come from this bill, as I’m SURE it will pass with without dissent, is that WE could actually get a four week long break from OBAMA, NANCY “PROFIT SHARING” PELOSI, Barney “HAPPY FEET” Franks as well as Waxman, Reid so on so on! The truth is, that the Liberal Congress has got to slow down and take a breath while the printing presses are cooling down and getting much needed maintenance, and the ink is drying on all the NEW money it’ll print to pay for all this FREE LEGISLATION! Don’t worry! Be Happy! Enjoy your vacation on us!

Just another TYPICAL congress person. They just do not get it.

June 1, 2009 Liz, Illinois writes:

Looks like the dirty little secret is out. It won’t cost the taxpayers money since many government workers do very little work when they are on the job. Their lack of being on the job for 4 weeks won’t make a bit of difference at all.

June 1, 2009 Diane, California writes:

This bill would be revenue neutral if you assume that most federal workers don’t do much. Therefore, it really doesn’t matter if they go to work or not. And if they happen to do something, all the other people who don’t do much can cover for them. This may not be far from the truth.

WOW. CNN?? But anyway, if it’s no cost to taxpayers, obviously the government has money stashed!!!!

June 2, 2009 gp,nj writes:

If there is no cost than why not give them 52 weeks of paid leave - What a moron, and she is an elected official. How the heck does this happen. I guess we are the fools.

June 2, 2009 Michael Webb writes:

We need to get government completely out of the way. We need to ditch this Congress and Senate and start over. This is for the executive level; who will be the first to start impeachment proceedings. And also give me the money I and my employer put into Social Security for me.
We need elected officials that are like rabid dogs to get us back on track the way that the Constitution madates.

June 2, 2009 Pat, Washington writes:

Why not take this to the extreme, I mean lets give them 52 weeks a year paid leave, since its revenue neutral. Think of all the money we would save, if all federal employees just never came back to work, less building costs, its very green, less energy used for heating and cooling, less gas for commuting, less paper produced. I like it, it will save the world, and besides think of the children.

June 2, 2009 Tom Iowa writes:

Actually, We would be better off if they all stayed home for the next two years and we paid them to stay there……..

June 2, 2009 Normca writes:

Give the democrats including the media a break. Federal workers are just another constituency for the party in power. And this is just another effort to keep them. The Obama created thousands of Federal jobs for this purpose. And we have “not seen nothing yet”. Illegals when give amnesty is another voting group. So CNN and Maloney do not mean harm to anyone. And get with the program. CNN and the rest of the liberal media sold us Johnny and Obama, so they think we will go for anything.

June 2, 2009 Pat, Washington writes:

I was only joking slightly, we would much better off.

June 2, 2009 John Roane Sarasota, Florida writes:

When will of us get it? It’s not Democrat or Republican it’s all of them. We need terms limits in the US Congress. I spoke to day with a U.S. Congressman concerning several issues for us all. One of which was getting a bill into Congress on term limits. This Congressman seems OK with 12 years for each house and I believe that to be a good start. He directed his aid to begin the process.

Term limits won’t cure all ills but you must admit it’s a good start. It will take a long time and it requires ratification by the States but let’s gets started.

June 2, 2009 Richard Bulgarelli writes:

Why don’t they give Congress and the federal bureaucracy 50 weeks of paid leave. I would probably be revenue positive by keeping Congress from making stuip new laws like TARP and the bureacrates from sticking their noses in everyone business.

June 2, 2009 Lynn B. DeSpain writes:

Keep going and the Federal Government will be like the California Government with seven employees to one employee in the Private sector! And look where California is now!

The arrogance of these morons is astound-
ing! I, for one, will vote her, and all
others like her, out of office next year.
If the rest of you know what’s good for
yourselves, you’ll get off your butts and
do the same, Republican or Democrat! The
next step after that is to impeach Obama,
and any others who might be still in office after the “smoke” of the upcoming
election clears the air. If we don’t ex-
ercise our rights now, we won’t have any
left…

50 weeks of paid leave? Heck, why not. They seem to be useless when it comes to protecting and strengthening are rights under our constitution and bill of rights. Life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. Where are these people who have a knowledge of these concepts and have what it takes to preserve them? For what we have now though-50 weeks of paid leave.

June 3, 2009 john walsh writes:

just think this wingnut will be a senator next election, thanks to all the other wingmuts in new york.

June 3, 2009 Ross writes, Florida writes:

“Wingnut of the Left”, “Wingnut of the Week”? CNN reporting? Is CNN finally see the writing on the wall and have started to climb out of the toilet? Are they moving to the right?
How will the Obama administration and the Democrats react and punish CNN for this blaspheme act?

June 3, 2009 Married, two incomes, no kids, Georgia writes:

When did it become the taxpayers’ responsibility to help fund time off work to have a family? This womb to tomb mentality of government care is going to implode. The more of us Big Daddy Government takes care of, the fewer contributors there will be to fund this welfare for all. What happened to saving and planning and having a family when you can afford it and can afford to have a spouse out of work?! Or, hey, what about saving your sick time/vacation/time off (which we KNOW gov’t employees receive)in anticipation of having a child and utilizing the generous benefits you ALREADY have?!I’m tired of paying for other’s poor decisions and life choices. Heck, maybe I should get paid a BONUS since I have not had children - therefore no maternity leave, no having to leave work for a sick child or for school activities (not that there is anything wrong with that I applaud parents who are involved but, NO ONE should expect their employer to pay toward their children or child care or maternity leave).
