Is Defense a Priority?

Earlier today, in his delivered remarks on national security, the President forgot the name of Defense Secretary Robert Gates. He goes by Bob. The President called him William. He has been the Defense Secretary since 2006. If you watch the video, the President clearly realizes something is wrong with his speech. So this is the question: Because of the low priority the President has given the Pentagon in next year’s budget, should this make you wonder about their relationship? Or is the President so inextricably tied to speeches and teleprompters to the point … More

Rule of Law: Good for Retirees or Only Terrorists?

Today President Obama stood on the world stage and demanded that suspected terrorists be treated under the “rule of law.” In fact, he used the phrase “rule of law” eight times. It is now time for him to use the phrase “rule of law” when it comes to Americans. In the next two weeks, the President will likely endorse a series of measures in his role as CEO of the car companies that may violate a number of U.S. contract laws, bankruptcy laws and financial rules and regulations. The United States … More

The Left’s Health Care “Competition” Farce

Must see video from Verum Serum exposing the real agenda behind the left’s rhetoric about a public plan just offering “competition” for private health insurance: As Yale professor Jacob Hacker says in the video: “Someone once said to me this is a Trojan Horse for single payer and I said well its not a Trojan Horse, right? Its just right there.” And then later:  “One of the virtues of it though is that you can at least make the claim that there is a competitve system between the public … More

    Waxman-Markey Admits Waxman-Markey is a Jobs Destroyer

The Center for American Progress claims “The Waxman-Markey bill will create jobs by spurring investment in renewables and efficiency.” And its true. Our own Center for Data Analysis study of the employment impacts of Waxman-Markey shows that the bill will create some new jobs. Problem is those new jobs will be dwarfed by the job losses caused by the higher energy prices Waxman-Markey would create. Don’t believe that Waxman-Markey is a jobs killer? Well Waxman-Markey does. Title VII, Subtitle B, Part 2 of Waxman-Markey is titled “Climate Change Worker Adjustment … More

Cap and Trading Your Job In for Unemployment Insurance

Title IV, Subtitle B, Part 2, Section 426 of the Waxman-Markey cap and trade legislation: An eligible worker (specifically, workers who lose their jobs as a result of this measure) may receive a climate change adjustment allowance under this subsection for a period of not longer than 156 weeks…80 percent of the monthly premium of any health insurance coverage…up to a maximum payment of $1,500 in relocation allowance…and job search expenses not exceed[ing] $1,500.” Climate change adjustment allowance? Seriously?

The TARP Bailout Parade: Is California Next?

During yesterday’s Senate Banking committee TARP oversight hearing, Sen. Jim DeMint (R-SC) asked Treasury Secretary Tim Geithner: So it’s your understanding that you have $700 billion to use permanently as you see fit? Secretary Geithner replied: I’m not quite sure ‘permanently’ is right. So then what is the right word? Does the Obama administration recognize any end or limit to what they can do with their $700 billion TARP slush fund? As the Los Angeles Times reports, California appears next in line for the bailout parade:

Tit for Tat, “Buy American” Starts Backfiring

By now, you are well aware of the infamous “Buy American provisions” inserted into the $787 Billion stimulus package. These were even watered-down and reworded after concerns their language lead to outrage from many of the United States’ key trading partners.  In the end, language was added to alleviate international fears stating the provisions “shall be applied in a manner consistent with United States obligations under international agreements.” The purpose of this was to ensure that trading partners like Canada and Mexico were not effected by the provisions because of … More

Patients’ Choice Act Features Key Conservative Reform Elements

New legislation introduced by Sens. Tom Coburn (R-OK) and Richard Burr (R-NC) features several important conservative principles for health-care reform that would allow free-market solutions to take root in the broken U.S. health care system, and give patients more decision-making power with their health care dollars. A corresponding bill also was introduced in the House this week by Reps. Devin Nunes (R-CA) and Paul Ryan (R-WI). It’s the first health-care reform package that has been introduced in the current Congress. Several Democratic congressional members are expected to introduce their versions … More

Cheney’s Detainee Speech: Obama Got His Answer

Former Vice President Dick Cheney offered a straight-forward, no nonsense appraisal of what the Bush administration did in the wake of 9/11 and why. He detailed their strategic overview in plain language and without apology. He answered all of the indictments from President Barack Obama’s immediately preceding speech at the National Archives. Obama claimed Guantanamo made the United States less safe and more vulnerable to terrorists. He decried enhanced interrogation techniques and postured his policies as those that will restore America’s moral authority. Cheney responded by noting that terrorism can … More

The Public Health Care Plan: What Seems to Be the Problem?

Debunking the Myths Lower Costs? It’s a shell game. A government plan always looks cheaper, but the reality is that the true costs are hidden. Costs are passed on to providers in administrative costs and lower reimbursements, resulting in a huge cost-shift to private payers to make up the difference. Quality Care? One only needs to look at current government health plans. Medicare has huge gaps in coverage. And Medicaid’s quality is notoriously bad. The record is clear: They offer substandard care compared to private health insurance, especially in the … More
