    Live Blogging Pelosi’s Press Conference

The Speaker is back! She once again thanks Waxman and Markey for their Global Warming Tax, a bill disguised as environmental legislation when it would have little impact on global temperatures. In fact, it is a massive energy tax that promises soaring household energy bills, major job losses, income cuts, and a sharp left turn toward big government. Bu thanks. She is now taking questions.

Rep. Becerra tosses it to DCCC Chairman Chris Van Hollen (D-MD). Van Hollen wants to ensure Americans their money is being well spent. Do you feel assured? He then praises President Obama for vowing to cut the deficit in half, once again missing the obvious logical point that he already quadrupled it. Pelosi might get near the podium again. Has anyone seen the Speaker?

Speaker Pelosi tosses it to Caucus Vice-Chair Xavier Becerra (D-CA) who praises the President and the Speaker, then rails against the debt. He says a trillion dollars broken down in seconds, means it would’ve started 32,000 years ago when man created fire. This is shocking, considering that this man, and his liberal colleagues voted for a trillion dollar stimulus bill WITHOUT READING IT. If spending money and increasing debt is of concern, Congressman Becerra has a choice: Just say no.

Majority Leader Steny Hoyer discusses the liberal plans for health care reform, assuring Americans that they will be able to keep their current health plan. If you believe that, then you believe Speaker Pelosi never knew about enhanced interrogation. With a public plan, the federal government would create the rules for the “game” in which it plans to compete. But the government would not just be a neutral umpire in the game. It would also own one of the competing teams, namely the public plan. It’s impossible to believe that … More

She tosses it to Majority Leader Steny Hoyer (safe play) and frustrates network anchors across the spectrum. Well, CNN and MsNBC aren’t covering the press conference, so frustrates some of the anchors. Leader Hoyer says he hasn’t seen a more productive five months in Congress in his 30 years on Capitol Hill. If by ‘productive’ he means spending away our future, quadrupling our national debt, ignoring the deficit, and passing so many spending bills that nobody read any of them before passage. Then yes…productive.

She starts off announcing her honory degree from John Hopkins, and then announces the good news of raising taxes on all Americans and killing jobs across the country. By moving the Waxman-Markey Global Warming Tax out of committee, Nancy Pelosi’s San Francisco constituents may be thrilled, but anyone in America who gets an electric bill or fuels their car is not smiling. Waxman–Markey will raise electricity rates 90% after adjusting for inflation, gas prices 74%, natural gas prices 55%, and an average family’s annual energy bill by at least $1,500. … More

While we wait for Speaker Pelosi to take the podium, let us remind you what CIA Director Leon Panetta (former Clinton Chief of Staff) said earlier this week: “Let me be clear: It is not our policy or practice to mislead Congress. That is against our laws and our values…Our contemporaneous records from September 2002 indicate that CIA officers briefed truthfully on the interrogation of Abu Zubaydah, describing ‘the enhanced techniques that had been employed.’”

Nancy Pelosi will soon be taking the podium again to answer press questions on her knowledge of CIA interrogation techiques. We will of course be bringing you live updates here on The Foundry. Stay tuned.

EPA’s Flawed Cap and Trade Analysis

Today the National Black Chamber of Commerce (NBCC) released a new study that predicts devastating economic impacts of Waxman-Markey’s cap and trade legislation. The analysis determines that by 2030 the law would: • Reduce national GDP roughly $350 billon below the baseline level; • Cut net employment by 2.5 million jobs (even after accounting for new “green” jobs); and • Reduce earnings for the average U.S. worker by $390 per year. • Reduce an average household’s annual purchasing power by $830. Although the Chamber’s model, used by CRA International who … More

Morning Bell: How Big Labor Hurts You

Earlier this month, Service Employee International Union President Andy Stern told the Las Vegas Sun, “We spent a fortune to elect Barack Obama — $60.7 million to be exact — and we’re proud of it.” Stern should be proud of his $60.7 million investment. There is a good chance that thanks to the Obama administration, big labor will succeed in passing legislation that has the potential to reverse big labor’s decades long decline. And that will mean less jobs and a slower economic recovery for all of us. Proponents of … More
