I hate when people compare apple and oranges and call them banana splits. US is far from Russia even if we go to the left for next decade we will still be far from what Russia is or wants to be. Why don't you go live in Russia for few years and experience life there first hand hmm. I did. Or comparing Al'quida/Taliban to WWII Natzie Germany. No it will take 1000 of years for Taliban to kill 40 million people that died during WWII. That is roughly 20,000 a day for next 6 years. No compression. More history and couple trips outside the country would do wonders. If you meet Irish in the bar it don't mean you know everything about Ireland. If you see Russia from your borders (i.e. Governor Palin) doesn't mean you become expert in foreign relationships.

I am not sure we have any great wisdom ourselves when we spend trillions by borrowing and printing, with debt and unfunded liability hovering around $70Trillion. We are not forming soup lines yet. But with rapid nationalization of every industry and banks, we will get there ourselves. Let us not mock Russia. Just look in the mirror. We are no longer the beacon of freedom ourselves!

but, incredibly, for all its thuggishness and for its open hostility to small countries on its borders, the IMF is planning on giving the russians billions of dollars in loans.

I'm willing to bet that the IMF - joke that it is - will be far more magnanimous to russia than it is to small african states that come to it pleading for hand-outs.

this talk of a loan is absolutely infuriating
