Morning Bell: President Obama’s Foundation of Straw

Stealing from the Sermon on the Mount to defend his administration’s economic record this Tuesday, President Barack Obama urged Americans to “build our house upon a rock” instead of “the same pile of sand” it had been built on before. In Obama’s hands, the teachings of Jesus become just another way to tell the story of the Three Little Pigs. And a close examination of Obama’s new “five pillars that will grow our economy” shows that Obama is trying to build our new foundation with straw. The problems begin with … More

    A House Divided

Speaking at Heritage, Rebecca Hagelin, author of 30 Ways in 30 Days to Save Your Family, shared some startling news with us about the decline of families in America. A point that she brought up is that when people can’t depend on their family, they turn to the government for dependence. A report from CNN started that 40% of children are born outside of wedlock. This is an alarming trend. According to our FamilyFacts.org web site’s Top 10 findings for December 2008, married families are much better off financially than … More

Recession is Latin for Tough Love

“There is no disagreement,” said President Obama, “that we need action by our government, a recovery plan that will help jump start the economy.” Those chilling words were said in January, but we were reminded of that sentiment yesterday when President Obama claimed that “…economists on both the left and right agree that the last thing a government should do in the middle of a recession is to cut back on spending.” Markets work and there are many companies and entrepreneurs making the best of the current recessionary environment despite … More

    All Aboard the Crazy Train

The left is all atwitter over the Obama administration’s release of their High-Speed Rail Plan, which, as with most everything that comes out of the Obama administration these days, is long on hope, short on details, and completely out of touch with reality. The plan includes an $8 billion “down payment” from the $787 billion stimulus package and calls for another $5 billion from the FY 2010 budget. This $13 billion will be spent in two rounds: 1) “on projects that can be completed quickly and yield measurable, near-term job … More

Global Warming Science Update: Addressing Drastic Sea Level Rises

Maybe Nobel Laureate and former Vice President Al Gore was right. In An Inconvenient Truth, he spoke of twenty-foot sea level rises “in the near future” while showing animations of Florida, Shanghai, Calcutta and Manhattan being swallowed by sea level increases. A new study released today in Nature that analyzes fossil coral reefs in Mexico “suggests that a sudden rise of 6.5 feet to 10 feet occurred within a span of 50 to 100 years about 121,000 years ago, at the end of the last warm interval between ice ages.” … More

Exposing Health Care Myths Video Contest

Got a video camera? Do you want health care reform consistent with limited government principles? Do you want $3,000? Then you might want to enter the Galen Institute‘s First Do No Harm Video Contest. Check out this flier for all the rules but quickly; videos will be judged based on quality, creativity and message … and the message Galen is looking for is that big government is not the answer to health care reform. One of the myths Galen wants to see exposed: Expanding government is the only solution to … More

A Cup of Afghan Tea with the Editors of The New York Times

So what do yesterday’s nationwide tea parties and a protest march in Afghanistan have in common? They’re both highlights of conservative victories, successes (unsurprisingly) mostly ignored in the pages of The New York Times. Tens of thousands of Americans rallied at tea parties on Wednesday to protest out-of-control federal spending. That’s probably news to the remaining handful of Americans who get their information solely from the “newspaper of record.” The print edition of the Times provided a tepid write up of the parties on page A-16. “Although organizers insisted they … More

Failure to Launch: Gates Refuses Request to Use Top Missile Defense Radar

Defense Secretary Robert M. Gates refused to grant permission to U.S. Northern Command to use the nation’s most powerful sea-based radar to monitor North Korea’s recent missile launch. Why is this significant? Because the $900 million dollar system, known as SBX, is capable of detecting a baseball hit out of a ballpark from more than 3,000 miles away and provides unparalleled details of missile capabilities. The system is three to four times more powerful than all other radars in the missile defense inventory. If any system should have been used … More

North Korea Missile Test: More Successful Than Advertised

Spaceflight Now‘s Craig Covault reports: New details emerging from the analysis of data from North Korea’s April 5 Taepo-Dong-2 test indicate the vehicle flew successfully several hundred miles further than previously believed and used more advanced steering than has been demonstrated by the North Korean’s before.

    Obama’s Tax Claims Contradict Reality

President Obama marked Tax Day with a speech touting his tax policies. He made several claims about how his policies will improve the economy, most of which don’t hold up under close scrutiny. Here are a few of the more egregious examples: President Obama claimed the tax cuts in the mis-labeled “stimulus” bill are the most progressive in history. This is true because the so-called stimulus created the Making Work Pay Credit and expanded the Child Tax Credit and the Earned Income Tax Credit. All these credits are refundable, so … More
