I totally agree with Donna, northeast Georgia.
I had previously responded on this subject by saying that the Republicans in the Congress and the party are inept in taking high moral ground on this issue and showcase the hypocrisy and racism of the Democrats in the Congress and the White House.
I would have arranged for a huge demonstration with all the 1700 DC kids and others that are being denied opportunity to a better school right in front of the Capitol and invited speakers from the education field and the politicians such as Dick Durbin to address the crowd to explain to them as to why they are being denied a legitimate opportunity, the same opportunity that is available to all those Congressional members that send their children to a private school instead of the DC schools. I will start with Obama.

We need to do away with federal funding for schools (and the Dept of Education) and let the states do their own job of education. Education both at the elementary, high school and college levels should be funded(public funding) by a voucher system, not by direct budget allocation to the educational institution. Obviously President Obama had the union in mind when he said funding for children depends upon whether it works - works for the union. The man is good with words but action is something else.

Predators always go for the yougest and oldest first, because it is hardest for them to fight back. Our Government is no different! How dare the Government tell parents what is "BEST" for their children anyway? Another guy and his 'Brownshirts' tried that, it didn't work out to well.
If we take our brightest and most intelligent and place them with the lower motivated, and anger ativateted kids, who do you honestly think will have influence upon whom?
Vouchers are the only way that Prarents have of controlling the Education of their Children. The Government, any government should never be given the controll and care of our children.

June 11, 1963, Governor George Wallace stood in front/blocked the schoolhouse door. Now Barack Obama and the congressional Black Caucus are doing the same, Wallace excuse was racism, what's their excuse? By the way I am Black and a product of private schools.

I've always thought this was the issue conservatives could "own!" To me it's an absolute no-brainer. I can't imagine any parent not wanting the opportunity to actually have the choice to educate their child in something besides a failing public school.

The Republicans have really dropped the ball on this one, and this is a real opportunity to step up to the plate, if they're serious, and pound this issue home.

Are we really to think that sympathy for the grossly under-performing public schools and the teachers' unions is enough to brainwash parents into opposing this?

This is a gift! Let's get busy and make this "The Issue" in the 2010 election, along with the Fair Tax and term limits.

This is just another ploy of the Demon-Crats to keep America's impoverished children down and reliant on the Government. Obama and his croanies and the Teacher's Unions should be ashamed of themselves. Members of Congress and the President should have to send their children to public schools - See what they think. They talk out of both sides of their mouths.

When politicians, mostly Democrats, have sold their souls to the unions and, in this case, totally to the National (Un)Education Association and all of the money (92%) unions give to the Demos. Utterly shameful.

How come this action denying the poor minority students to have the same choice as available to Obama and all other Congressional members is not racist?
