    The President’s Plan

    • Blames Bush: President Obama correctly points out that he inherited a projected $1.2 trillion deficit in 2009 from President Bush and a Democratic Congress. However, his budget adds an additional $659 billion to that deficit, pushing it above $1.8 trillion. Although Obama has pledged to reduce the budget deficit to approximately $600 billion by 2012, that would still be $150 billion above pre-recession levels. Quadrupling the deficit and then cutting it in half is not “change.”
    • Increases Spending, Again: After an $800 billion stimulus bill, the Obama budget increases spending by $1 trillion over 10 years, includes an additional $250 billion placeholder for another bailout, and calls for a Pay-As-You-Go (PAYGO) law while astonishingly violating that rule by $3.4 trillion.
    • Expands Government: The 25% spending increase in the Obama budget represents the largest non-war government expansion since the New Deal.
    • Leaves Deficits: The Obama budget leaves permanent deficits averaging $600 billion even after the economy recovers and doubles the publicly held national debt to over $15 trillion ($12.5 trillion in 2009 dollars).
    • Cuts Defense: The Obama budget fails to fully fund the core defense needs of the United States. About $30 billion more is needed in the base defense budget.
    • Puts Government in Charge: The $634 billion for health care reform in the Obama budget is only a “down payment” on an eventual government-run system. Experts believe the actual cost could reach $1.6 trillion over 10 years. This is in addition to the trillions already spent on health care this year in the stimulus and SCHIP bills.

    Taxes, Taxes, Taxes

    • Energy Taxes: The Obama budget proposes a $646 billion cap-and-trade tax that White House officials admit could actually generate $1.9 trillion in tax revenue over eight years. This tax would cost each American household between $650 and $2,000 annually in new energy costs, even though President Obama promised that “electricity rates would necessarily skyrocket” under this cap-and-trade program (January 2008).
    • Oil and Gas Taxes: The Obama budget would collect $31 billion in new oil and gas tax revenue. These industries are already taxed above the industrial average, and increasing the burden would be detrimental to increasing or even maintaining domestic supply.
    • Excise Taxes: The Obama budget would reinstate unnecessary Superfund excise taxes that expired in 1995.
    • Death Taxes: The estate tax is set to expire in 2010, but the Obama budget and liberals in Congress are proposing keeping it between 35 and 45%.
    • Tobacco Taxes: The largest tobacco tax in history is three times as likely to affect low-income Americans, who are more likely to smoke, as it is to affect high-income Americans.

    There Are Alternatives

    • A Path to American Prosperity: There are now two 10-year budget plans being offered in Washington. The Obama budget raises taxes by $1.4 trillion; the conservative Alternative avoids all tax increases and even simplifies the tax code. One budget does nothing to address the unsustainable costs of Social Security and Medicaid; the other begins to reform these programs. One budget permanently raises federal spending to over 22% of GDP; the other lowers it to pre-recession levels.
    • Lower Taxes: Senator Jim DeMint’s “American Option” would have reduced business taxes from 35 percent to 25 percent to spur rapid growth in wages, jobs and business incomes. It also would have permanently repealed the Alternative Minimum Tax and reduced the individual tax rate to three levels—10, 15, and 25 percent—giving Americans more of their own money to fuel the economy and increasing disposable income for an average family of four by up to $4,500 by 2013.

    1. KMX says:

Some Tea Party organizers are making a huge mistake by making this about President Obama. This is about all our legislators who are not listening and following the constitution.

The issue is bigger than the president. We need to rally for a Fair Tax. Stop government waste, spending and stop the bail outs. I would love to see ordinary citizens given a chance to speak for 5 minutes. Instead of only national speakers and talk show hosts. Lets have 1 hour sessions where anyone who register to speak can get up and speak for 5 mins. This will be a great opportunity for emerging leaders to be recognized. And then we can ask ourselves what we hope to accomplish after all these tea parties.

After all this, I hope there is Tax Reform. So the productive class isn't tax to death. This is not about being mad. It is about being wise. If people are mad they may do irrational things. The last thing we want is for these Tea Parties to turn violent.

There should be music, costumes, creative posters, banners, video cameras, citizen reporters etc

We are not anarchists, we are patriots!!

    2. MAS1916 - Denver, CO says:

The Tea Parties need to loudly voice what is coming…

The inevitable result of overspending will be significant inflation – probably beginning early 2010.

Rapid expansions of the money supply coupled with the government's inability to borrow everything it needs on world financial markets leaves Obama with one option – print the money he needs. We have already seen exceptional expansion in the money supply as noted in recent M1 and M2 measurements.

Inflation is the cruelest of all tax increases as it directly impacts the poor and middle classes the most. The wealthy can modify behavior to mitigate impact, but the poor and middle classes are compelled to pay higher costs for food, fuel and other essentials. Wages historically do not keep pace with price/cost increases.

Coupled with the Cap and Trade energy tax, American society is in for an incredibly difficult couple of years and the problems stem from overspending and overborrowing. Tea Parties need to make this clear now… while there might be time to do something about it in late 2010.

Wrong! It is in fact "ALL" about this Marxist ideologue.

      KMX wrote:

Wrong again! The issue "IS" the president.

This is a war for the survival of our country, not an arts & crafts seminar.

Freedom is Never More Than One Generation Away From Extinction and IN THE WAR BETWEEN collectivism and individual liberty, the battle for freedom must be won over and over again.

Obama is not the solution to the problem, he "IS" the problem.

      • MIKE says:

Scapegoat much? KMX is the only rational person here obviously. The rest of you seem completely obsessed with being NEO-CONFEDERATES.

    4. Mark, TN says:

I've put together some of the most important, inspirational and thought-provoking quotes from Ayn Rand and Thomas Jefferson that speak directly to our current situation. I believe these would be a helpful source for Tea Party planners and speakers. (I'm working on a list of the very best Reagan quotes).

    5. sean nevada says:

I do agree that obama is a big problem with the polices he has but I think the second big problem would have to be ethere the school system and what it teaches or meadia and what it covers. That is what hitler used in germeny, his pr guy did say if you tell a big lie enough times it becomes the truth and that is what happend during the election and now. most peopl I speak with still think they are getting a check in the mail

    6. Terri Dewell, Bowers says:

Thanks for the Ideas, Atlas Shrugs! Founding Fathers! I can't wait for the Canton, OH Tea Party. Taxation without Representation, Get out the Muskets!! I am Mad as hell and not going to take it any More!! We need to be Creative!!

    7. Jack, Maryland says:

While the media will make our rallies out to be against the President, they are not and should not. We need to protest against the coup d'etat that took place on Jan. 21st. The battles began over a year before that and culminate in November.

It remains the legislatures that now stand unresponsive to the voice of the people. We need to remove them first before assaulting the thieves and cut-purses on Capitol Hill. One thing at a time. A gnat is an annoyance while a swarm of gnats is a real problem that can get in to everything.

We need to make our voices heard, non-violently, but loudly and clearly, that we do not need this change.

    8. Maureen Ace says:

Thank you for this opportunity. With the election of Barrack Hussein Obama and his subsequent follow-through on all of his promises – I am hard pressed to see what is the worse thing. Nothing surprises me – he promised all of the awful things he's done so far. As an American I will do my utmost to maintain my self esteem and that of my friends. I will also work for the election of a God fearing person in 2012.

You don't like healthcare? Rather see people die because they can't afford a doctor? Enjoy not taxing the rich equally? Enjoy corporate loop holes allowing corporations to keep their money from being taxed? Ever heard of a "Tax Holiday"? Ever compare Civil war era Confederate rhetoric to Tea Party rhetoric? Maybe you're one of these people who believes the EPA is useless? Enjoy seeing what Fracking does to the environment? Never heard the phrase, "You have to spend money to make money", basic economics a child could understand. Corporations are spending large sums of cash to keep you in their pocket.

    9. Michelle, MO says:

The problems we currently face are because of Government in General. Not political parties. Of course Obama is sending us down a path of destruction and we have a responsibility to do everything we can to stop the madness. However he only came to be because to many Americans sat around and did nothing for so long. Not to mention we haven't had a REAL conservative for a while now. I hope and pray that these tea parties start a movement that doesn't stop until there is REAL CHANGE in the hearts and minds of Americans.

I have organized one tea party and am speaking at another. I hope all of you will do something to help in these events. And yes, take a day off work and get out there. I know it may be tight times now, but it will get alot worse if we don't.

      God Bless!!

    10. Harry, Kansas City says:

It appears that the politicians are getting a bit paranoid over their actions of late due to the public outcries, blogs and protests. I.E. MIAC, the bailouts, the teabag mailings, etc.

What I would like to see happen is for private citizens, who have the access to sensitive materiel, take a chance and blow the whistle on crooked politicians. The time has come. Risky as it may be, the house cleaning that would occur would make it all worthwhile. For example, the tax cheaters who hold public office. We need these corrupt people exposed, outed, and replaced with upstanding people.

    15. Dennis A. Social Cir says:

Socialism and taxes go hand in hand. You can not have one without increasing the other. We will soon be back to the jimmy carter days, high taxes, inflation and interest at 15%. President Regan is the eone that got us out of that mess, he lowered taxes, reduced government spending and jobs behan to blossom. It is to bad the dems and obama can not see thiat is the way we need to go. Then socialist government would be dead in the water, which means the dems would all loose. I just hope in 2010 elections we all remember waht has taken place, and that it is not to late to turn this government aroud.

    16. Michael R. Bond, Elw says:

We need to wake up! Everyone needs to get involved in our government. The Framers gave us a way to get rid of people in government that destroy the foundation of our life, liberty, and the persuit of happiness. We need to vote THEM OUT OF OFFICE!!!

I am,for the first time, getting afraid of our Politicians. Socialism is on fast track. In a few years we will not know America. LET'S STAND UP AND NOW TO TAKE BACK OUR GOVERNMENT!

    17. Harlan, Baltimore, M says:

There should be no politicians allowed to speak at any Tax Day Tea Party anywhere. This should not be a "Republicans Good, Democrats Bad" function. They ALL stink. I can count the actual Conservative Republican politicians, at a national level, on one hand.

The politicians need to stay home, shut up, and listen to what We, The People, have to tell them to do.

After all, they DO work for US…don't they?

    18. Al, The Villages, Fl says:

President Obama is merely the front guy for the secular socialist agenda of the democrat party. We need a republican congress fast to repeal his agenda and, like with Clinton, put him on a more responsible footing. Beyond that, we need to take back our country by putting in office sound conservatives that appreciate the constitution, and support life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. We need a fair tax system that stops taxation from being a gov't/activist weapon and we need to stop activist judges. We need to completly rethink how we fund our schools and rid it of the secular progressive corruption. If the republicans aren't up to the task, maybe we need a new party. This country was built on Judeo-Christian values that respect life, the constitution, individual responsibility and small government. We need to return to that or perish as a country.

    19. mike baker Dallas Ce says:

You show up and make it about what you want, I'll do the same and I'll bet we agree on most issues. Just show up, and please don't litter.

    20. East Texas says:

I like the GET THEM OUT OF OFFICE statement. There are many good thoughts commented on above. Not everyone agrees on how to do it or what to say, but stop and think about this: Freedom is what we want. Freedom of expression, thought, ideas, way of approaching problems, etc. Let's accept one another's ways as long as they are Constitutional in the original sense of the word. We should not argue among ourselves at this point. I didn't like it when Rush and Michael went after each other. It was bad for morale and fodder for the liberals…the anti-constitutionalists. Let's just get out there and oppose big government and uphold the rights, privileges and responsibilities of the free man in the United States of America.

I and many others are considering not filing any taxes next year, if the officials in Washington keep spending like drunken sailors (no offense to said sailors).

    22. Ron, Noblesville, IN says:

Heres a thought: Lets ask all the European countries to repay us for all the funding we so proudly gave them after WW2 to help them reuild their Countries during their time on need…Also, have all countries pay up on their past due United Nations dues, fees, etc… That might help put a dent in the deficite…Before we are not able: WAKE UP AMERICA…Can't we have an election where a Man or Woman that wants to run for Office can do so with out the worry, or threat, someone in the White house is going toturn some "dirt"?… Our next Leaders need to come out and tell the truth, be open and honest and turn this sinking ship around…Let's put some balls back on Uncle Sam

    23. Doug says:

We must save the country from this coup. Obama is only the poster child & puppet. The puppeteers must be made out for what they are.

Attacking Obama will only earn him sympathy from the ill-informed. We don't have enough on him to make him the absolute villain. Therefore, the ideas must be shown for the hell they will cause.

      Be POSITIVE change.

Comment on fixing the economy: St Petersburg Times

There are about 40 million people over 50 in the work force. Mr. President: Pay them 1 million dollars each severance pay with the following stipulations:

      1. They leave their jobs. Forty million job openings- Unemployment fixed.

      2. They buy NEW AMERICAN cars. Forty million cars ordered- Auto Industry fixed.

      3. They either buy a house or pay off their mortgage- Housing Crisis fixed.

(PS If more money is needed, have all members of Congress – and their friends – pay their taxes.)

      • MIKE says:

It's so easy! Why didn't the experts think of this?

        1. They leave their jobs. Forty million job openings- Unemployment fixed.

These are all entry level jobs, easily filled by anyone? These are mid level management jobs where it will be fun to find someone new to build a lifelong report with their employees?

        2. They buy NEW AMERICAN cars. Forty million cars ordered- Auto Industry fixed.
If I spend all my money and someone "Fixes" me by giving me more . . . how does that help me?

        3. They either buy a house or pay off their mortgage- Housing Crisis fixed.
Again, juvenile view, how does this solve the problem? How would this deter the banks from doing the same again?

(PS If more money is needed, have all members of Congress – and their friends – pay their taxes.)

[PS you finally have a point. Bush era tax cuts for the rich need to end. Corporate loopholes need to close. This is the path to economic recovery.]

    25. NCVeteran says:

Freedom is a belief worthy of defense. Taxes fund the governments charged with defending that freedom. When freedom is no longer the ambition of government, government is no longer deserving of our taxes. Keep in mind that we American citizens are not the insurgents; the political class that has taken advantage of our apathy, manipulated the courts, and seized power by deceit are the insurgents in this war for America. Insurgency always depends on the popular support of the people to succeed. We must show unity and allegiance to the Constitution and Rule of Law so that the tyrants never gain the support of the masses. Tax reform, taxpayer insurrection and tax denial if need be is the only voice that the American citizen has that will be heard by deaf eared non-representing representatives from the State capitol to the Nation’s capitol. God Bless America the Free!

    26. Joe, Greenport, New says:

I keep hearing one of the Conservative talk show hosts clamoring that the Republicans should be shouting from the steps of Congress daily about all the Big Government/Socialist programs that the present administration and their equally idiotic party members keep proposing. Since the media still seems totally enamored about Obama and Michelle, all we hear is about them, and not nearly enough about the tea party rebellion taking place. Perhaps the Third Party which Newt feels may come about should come from the roots of the Tea Party constituency that is beginning to establish roots wants to deal with.

    27. Dave, AZ says:

I believe Obama is a huge issue, however the congress that has been in charge of everything since 2006 is the greatest failure this country has ever seen. Taxes were and are supposed to be a way to simply fund government but the current administration and congress along with the appointed bearcats have decide that tax is their ultimate device to control all people. So we now have congress getting around all the Bill of Rights and the Constitution by placing taxes on everything to the existent they can control your actions by simply increasing these taxes. I don't know when all of the money earned by private people and corporations became the property of the US government, but it did, now we only get back what the government wants us to have there by controlling every part of your life.

    28. Trish, Glenmmoore PA says:

The politicians who spoke at the WC event, are conservative, and they are willing to give the non-conservative Republicans the boot right along with us!

It was a great day, and the feeling of community and patriotism amony the regular folks, was rampant! We can survive, if we don't keep silent!

    29. mary genovese capacc says:

the passion of the people, i see and hear it everywhere…why, when we elect officials, they all of a sudden go deaf and dumb?..the republicans came up with some good alternatives to obama and pelosi's budget. (the democrats are stripping our beautiful country of the values and principles that our our country was founded on).the damage they have caused has already destroyed a generation's retirement years and caused debt and dependency for generations to come. we need much less taxes to generate the economy.. you don't need a degree in economics to figure that out. we are going to be burdened with such high taxes on energy all for the sake of al gore's propaganda on global warming and "go green". he made a bundle on that, and don't forget the universal tax he put on your phone bill that never went away, either. his lifestyle is such an offense and hypocracy as are the examples set by most of the democrats in office. you know what would happen if we forgot to pay our taxes….jail. if someone in government does that they get promoted…this should be a hint as to what is really going on in the government..it really is a "party".the policies of obama and pelosi just make no sense. the AMT is killing the upper middle class that carry the biggest burden of any taxpayer…we are not rich..we are not poor..we are like a middle child…totally forgotten and passed over…yet we are the bread and butter of america. obama was a disgrace humiliating our beautiful country on foreign soil. how dare he. his wife said during the campaign…how much she was ashamed of this country. how could you not think, when obama got in office he would make america pay. we must make this administration know, we are not going to take it anymore. we will take our "raped" country back, and make it heal. we will bring back the glory of what our constitution stands for. we will, we will..because i am a believer in my america. my father…God rest his soul, brought up six children, put them all through private college and never took a dime from the government. he served his new country proudly. he was a legal immigrant during the melting pot era of the 1920's and through his sweat and tears gave his children what this great country afforded…an opportunity to succeed if you had the determination to do so. and we all did. free enterprise, low taxes, free choice. god bless america!!!

"When you see that trading is done, not by consent, but by compulsion – when you see that in order to produce, you need to obtain permission from men who produce nothing – when you see that money is flowing to those who deal, not in goods, but in favors – when you see that men get richer by graft and by pull than by work, and your laws don’t protect you against them, but protect them against you – when you see corruption being rewarded and honesty becoming a self-sacrifice – you may know that your society is doomed."

sounds a lot like the EPA – Global Warming frauds, and the other legislators that are great at pushing papers and pencil doodling..Collecting your money (taxes)

Nobama is a puppet alright, but if we don’t cut his strings in 2010, he is going to turn control of America over to europe. He gave quite a bit away last week. It should deeply anger every American that this unqualified goof is in office.

Yes, we need to take back our government and reinstate all restrictions put on it. We also need to get our representatives in congress to be part timer and to go there on an emergency basis and only have one limited meeting once a year. They should only be paid for the work they do and be evaluated by their voters.

Also get all these entitlements out of the federal government and tell people that it is not the job of the feds to take care of them.

We need toget back into a monetary policy based on values. Back to gold standard and no bill will be printed unless there is equal amount of gold or silver to support it.

We also need to repeal the 16th amendment. This is the most intrusive law ever perpetrated on the american people. It was based on lies and total deceipt. It destroys basic freedom and in particularly it gives the governemnt control on our relif=gious beliefs by imposing tax deductions.

Also remove the unconstitutional Federal Reserve. This group should not be in the money printing busines and getting a profit in printing worthless paper.

"These talking points are divisive"? Of course they are! What do you want to do, sing Kumbaya? We need to separate the conservative way from the liberal way. We need to replace the Republicans who are not conservative and the liberal Democrats, as well. "Conservative" is not a party name, it's a one word description of our founding ideologies. The talking points above are very FACTUAL, not party oriented. They can be used by speakers to explain what the TEA Parties are rallied against.

    48. Alan Webster says:

We the people, of the people, by the people ARE the Government. Obama, Pelosi, Reid and cohorts MUST, and I mean ABSOLUTELY MUST GO! They, along with the mainstream Media, are the greatest danger to our Great Nation. I agree with Mick and others, it IS about a Marxist, ego-maniac, inept, and "Dictator-wanna-be" Obama! This IS a Liberal-Left Wing issue. It's time to TAKE OUR COUNTRY BACK NOW!!! Every day that goes by, it just gets worse.

    49. augusto pareja,m.d. says:

all these patriots who wrote these coments are to be praised for saying what I feel, but cannot articulate, for I am choking deeply hurt by seeing what that gang of 535 plus other secretaries, etc are doing to our beloved nation.Lets not forget, God is using them to judge us all for firing Him out of our lives and institutions all over this wonderful land.If my people who are called by my nameshall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and willforgive their sin,and will heal their land.2 Chronicles 7,14. writes and quotes Augusto N. 51. Jerry, El Paso,TX. says:

What we need is TERM LIMETS on the House of Representatives and Senate.

The empirers in congress we have today are due to people susposed to represent you and I but have been there for 20 or 30 years and are power hungrey. Only looking out for themself, not you or I. And both parties have them.

      TERM LIMETS would stop this.

    52. Eddie Dost, Port Ang says:

As far as I am concerned they all have to go and hopefully by the time that is done we will have something left to salvage. I don't care if we get Obama or congress first…just so we get all of the SOB'S. The way I see it Obama tells them how much he wants and then his minions write it into law along with anything else that they think will help them get re-elected by their constituents. To be honest I am not sure who is leading be it Obama, Reid, or Pelosi. None the less they are all responsible along with three quarters of the House and Senate and they all must pay!

    53. Brad, Magnoila Texas says:

This is not just a Democrat or Republican issue.

It is a Washington problem and the fact that we have been sitting on our hands and letting the few—protest/yell/and buy$ our country into this potential abiss. I still have some say to me it wont change!I cant do anything! & their right— IF you just give up and don't demand more out of them. They presently represent the lobiests/special interest & minority groups that give money & support.****(And expect to be paid back!) They work for those who got them there.

Time to take back our country! Dont let it turn party political—they both run it the same way—lets change the direction. "Liberty means responsibility. Thats why they dread it !!!!"

For the past few decades the state has been taking liberties, and these liberties were once ours!

****"The promises of yesterday are the taxes of today"****

    54. Dee in Texas says:

By all means, if attending a Tea Party, do express your opinion – we Americans have tolerated protest marches, demonstrations and riots by anti-American elements for far too long. It's our turn to be heard.

However, rumor has it that ACORN plans to infiltrate the Tea Parties for the express purpose of starting trouble, if possible – and to get photos of signs, T-shirts, etc. that can be misconstrued, and used in the media against us.

So think very carefully about the WAY you express your opinions. Don't give these bottom-feeders anything to work with.

    55. Tom Forrest says:

Remember Lee Iacocca, the man who rescued Chrysler Corporation from its death throes? He's now 82 years old and has a new book, 'Where Have All The Leaders Gone?'.

      Lee Iacocca Says:

'Am I the only guy in this country who's fed up with what's happening? Where the hell is our outrage? We should be screaming bloody murder! We've got a gang of clueless bozos steering our ship of state right over a cliff, we've got corporate gangsters stealing us blind, and we can't even clean up after a hurricane much less build a hybrid car. But instead of getting mad, everyone sits around and nods their heads when the politicians say, 'Stay the course.'

Stay the course? You've got to be kidding. This is America , not the damned, 'Titanic'. I'll give you a sound bite: 'Throw all the bums out!'

You might think I'm getting senile, that I've gone off my rocker, and maybe I have. But someone has to speak up. I hardly recognize this country anymore.

The most famous business leaders are not the innovators but the guys in handcuffs. While we're fiddling in Iraq , the Middle East is burning and nobody seems to know what to do. And the press is waving 'pom-poms' instead of asking hard questions. That's not the promise of the ' America ' my parents and yours traveled across the ocean for. I've had enough. How about you?

I'll go a step further. You can't call yourself a patriot if you're not outraged. This is a fight I'm ready and willing to have. The Biggest 'C' is Crisis! (Iacocca elaborates on nine C's of leadership, with crisis being the first.)

Leaders are made, not born. Leadership is forged in times of crisis. It's easy to sit there with your feet up on the desk and talk theory. Or send someone else's kids off to war when you've never seen a battlefield yourself. It's another thing to lead when your world comes tumbling down.

On September 11, 2001, we needed a strong leader more than any other time in our history. We needed a steady hand to guide us out of the ashes. A hell of a mess, so here's where we stand.

We're immersed in a bloody war with no plan for winning and no plan for leaving.

We're running the biggest deficit in the history of the country.

We're losing the manufacturing edge to Asia , while our once-great companies are getting slaughtered by health care costs.

Gas prices are skyrocketing, and nobody in power has a coherent energy policy. Our schools are in trouble.

      Our borders are like sieves..

The middle class is being squeezed every which way.

These are times that cry out for leadership.

But when you look around, you've got to ask: 'Where have all the leaders gone?' Where are the curious, creative communicators? Where are the people of character, courage, conviction, omnipotence, and common sense? I may be a sucker for alliteration, but I think you get the point.

Name me a leader who has a better idea for homeland security than making us take off our shoes in airports and throw away our shampoo?

We've spent billions of dollars building a huge new bureaucracy, and all we know how to do is react to things that have already happened.

Name me one leader who emerged from the crisis of Hurricane Katrina. Congress has yet to spend a single day evaluating the response to the hurricane or demanding accountability for the decisions that were made in the crucial hours after the storm.

Everyone's hunkering down, fingers crossed, hoping it doesn't happen again. Now, that's just crazy.. Storms happen. Deal with it. Make a plan. Figure out what you're going to do the next time.

Name me an industry leader who is thinking creatively about how we can restore our competitive edge in manufacturing. Who would have believed that there could ever be a time when 'The Big Three' referred to Japanese car companies? How did this happen, and more important, what are we going to do about it?

Name me a government leader who can articulate a plan for paying down the debit, or solving the energy crisis, or managing the health care problem. The silence is deafening. But these are the crises that are eating away at our country and milking the middle class dry.

I have news for the gang in Congress. We didn't elect you to sit on your asses and do nothing and remain silent while our democracy is being hijacked and our greatness is being replaced with mediocrity. What is everybody so afraid of? That some bonehead on Fox News will call them a name? Give me a break. Why don't you guys show some spine for a change?

Had Enough? Hey, I'm not trying to be the voice of gloom and doom here. I'm trying to light a fire. I'm speaking out because I have hope – I believe in America . In my lifetime, I've had the privilege of living through some of America 's greatest moments. I've also experienced some of our worst crises: The 'Great Depression,' 'World War II,' the 'Korean War,' the 'Kennedy Assassination,' the 'Vietnam War,' the 1970's oil crisis, and the struggles of recent years culminating with 9/11.

If I've learned one thing, it's this: 'You don't get anywhere by standing on the sidelines waiting for somebody else to take action. Whether it's building a better car or building a better future for our children, we all have a role to play. That's the challenge I'm raising in this book. It's a "Call to Action" for people who, like me, believe in America '. It's not too late, but it's getting pretty close. So let's shake off the crap and go to work. Let's tell 'em all we've had 'enough.'

Make your own contribution by sending this to everyone you know and care about. It's our country, folks, and it's our future. Our future is at stake!!

    56. Greg, Columbus, OH says:

Glenn Beck nailed this. There are two extremes in society – Anarchy (no government) and BIG Government (Communism, Socialism, Fascism, Dictatorships, etc.). The Articles of Confederation were very close to Anarchy. Therefore, the Constitution was written, it was conceived to give very limited powers to a Central Government. Very much toward the Anarchy extreme. Both Democrats AND Republicans are now very close to BIG Government. It is about America! All Americans must stand up to this!!

    57. Kelvin, Wyoming says:

I certainly agree with the broader points that are made in the article. The United State has had a spending problem for quit some time now. Overall spending has just gotten crazy since the 1980s. I do have some serious concerns about this. When will the government actually cut back on spending? The last time that happened was 1992, 1993, and 1996. Interestingly enough, spending has been at its least when there is a Democrat for President and Republican control of both the Senate and the House. With that said, overspending has certainly been a bi-partisan issue. I really think thats one of the reasons I like Ron Paul.

If you look at the actual facts, you’ll notice that spending just blew up in the Reagan (despite his small government rhetoric), Bush I & II, and Obama years.

There is one misleading item in the Blog article. That concerns defense spending. Most of the media is reporting that the Obama administration is cutting defense spending. That is not actually true. His budget is asking for 30 billion more in defense spending than Bushs budget last year. With that said, it is a decrease, in the rate of increase, compaired to the last few years. But again, overall it is still an increase of 30 billion. Also, yesterday the administration asked for an emergency supplemental budget of 90 billion to fund the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.

    58. Doug Edelman, St Lou says:

It is very important that Tea Party Participants remain ON MESSAGE. The parties are NON-PARTISAN. Remember we have a good number of Democrats joining in this effort! This is not Anti-Obama, Anti-Democrat, etc. It's not the forum to question Obama's eligibility, support alternate candidates, or promote other personalities, projects, causes or organizations.

We are coming together to protest oppressive confiscatory taxation, uncontrolled spending, pork, government growth and control, and a move toward socialist authoritarianism.

Let's NOT give the opposition the occasion to water down that message with OUR OWN WORDS!

    59. Bill, Dallas, TX says:

I particularly appreciate Mark of Tennessee's blog with a compilation of quotes from Ronald Reagan and Ayn Rand. The wisdom of their observations/statements seems inescapable to all but the totally unaware. I often find myself shaking my head in disbelief at so much of what is happening in my country today. Since the McCarthy days the socialists have successfully executed a strategy of gaining control of our educational institutions, our press, and ultimately our government. They have succeeded in creating an ever growing population of people who rely on the government for their subsistence. They have gained control of many of our state governments and, ultimately, the federal government. In fact, they now have complete control of all branches of the federal government. I personally feel an unbelievable degree of frustration with those of my fellow citizens, many of whom are close personal friends, who seem to have been completely numbed to what is going on. They've ceased contemplation of the ultimate direction and goals of this President and administration. I am dumbfounded that otherwise intelligent people are so in awe of this man. He truly is viewed as the Savior! Wake up people – this is not a TV "reality show"! This is the real deal! God help us!!

    60. Chet Jones,Grand Jun says:

Much of what has been said here is a repetetion of the previous writer, most of which I agree with, but I think it's time for all of us as voters to get rid of those now in office.Wether Republican,Independent,Democrat,Conservative, the guy in office is our Representative or Senator and of course our President even if you did or didn't vote for them.

What upsets me most is that the liberals in Congress voted for a humongous stimulus package that they couldn't possibly have read before they voted. While there is no term limits for these guys,it's about time all VOTERS started giving them term limits and VOTE them out in 2010 and 2012. The other guy can't be any worse than what we have and let the new guy know that he represents WE THE PEOPLE OR HE IS definitly a one term Representative or Senator.

It's time WE start getting rid of the Barny Frank's,Chris Dobb's,Nancy Pelosi's,Ted Kennedy's,Harry Bird's and thier likes, who continue to make a living by bilking the American people out of thier hard earned dollars.

The Tea Party is and should be about giving America back to the PEOPLE

    61. Honey Bee, Texas says:

Seems to me all we have done is talk. Talk and talk and talk and talk. Isn't it a time for action?

Why are our legislators allowed to leave their offices? Why are they not tied to the phones listening to the people they represent? Why aren't they demanding an end to the White House Bank?

We do not need larger government. We do not need more government interference in our lives. We do not need to be taxed more and more and more. We certainly do not need National Health Care.

We need our elected officials to do the job they were elected to perform and that is REPRESENT THE PEOPLE OF THE UNITED STATES. Do they honestly think WE THE PEOPLE will forget those who thought only of their pockets and greed and stood by and did nothing while our Great Nation was being taken apart, sold off piece by piece to the highest bidder? WE WILL NOT FORGET. Do any of them think they will have another term in office? Or are they betting by the time it comes for re-election, Mr. BO will have done away with all democracy in the US?

I hope we can survive BO and his leftist, Marxist ideology.

    62. Gayle Scirocco, New says:

I cannot download the pdf. talking points and I do have Adobe pdf reader and writer. The link doesn't appear to be working.

    63. pageantry says:

Wake up America before it is too late.

President Obama will never let control of the banks or the poor be taken out of his hands.

President Obama will never let GM go into NORMAL chapter 11 bankruptcy, because he will lose control of it.

Bankruptcy will clear the decks and GM will come out stronger than ever without Big Obama in control.

To fire Chairman Richard Wagoner is an outrage.

Is it now clear to everyone that we have elected a man as president who purpose in life is destruction, destruction of the most innocent life, destruction of our basic freedoms, destruction of our economic system and soon the destruction of our Second Amendment of our Constitution.

It is not a matter of politics; it is a matter of survival.

The American People have elected to the office of the President a “Pied Piper” who draws his power from the “dark side”.

He and his followers are well on their way of changing America from a freedom loving, constitutionally bound, entrepreneurial giant into a dictatorially controlled nation.

Our Founding Fathers through our Constitution gave power to the “people” and limited the powers of the elected few.

Under President Obama, power is changing hands by way of new laws and inordinate taxation of the family unit. He is driving future generations into the slavery of massive taxation without representation.

There are evil people in every society that must be contained. We are now in the “Perfect Storm: of envy, greed, immorality and class warfare, conducted by Obama.

He is the master of deceit. His tools are the lie, spreading fear, the false promise and the rewriting of our Constitution through the judiciary.

Like many despots before him he has little regard for the sacredness of life. He has many, many enablers: the Media Dupes, the political “want-to-be” and the naïve who have not studied history.

His acts are immoral clothed in positive rhetoric.

His goal is a socialist paradise controlled by the elitist few who have no regard for religion or justice.

He is doing everything in his power to encourage dependency on government.

This is a personal job security program for politicians. When you look at his acts and ignore his false rhetoric, you see the evil of his intent.

He is seducing the foolish into thinking that he is: “their messiah” who will end their suffering.

When in truth, he is leading them to perdition.

    64. Tom Salapatek, Canto says:

Democrats feel empowered to run THEIR government, without input from any one else. Let's let them.

Let's tell all our non-D reps to come home. Then without representation, we can stop paying taxes and stop accepting any bailout moneys. If I need any money, my local credit union is doing just fine.

    65. Gladys Denzler says:

I am protesting the huge increase in government spending & power grabs. The President, Congress & special interest are all to blame. The so-called Stimulus Bill was filled with wasteful pork spending for the benefit of Congress & Special Interest. The Omnibus Spending Bill with it's 8,000 ear-marks and 8% increase in spending makes Blagojevich's dealings look like child's play.

The former Governor was accused of using his office to get cash & special favors from business in return for state contracts. Many in Congress do this all the time, only they use ear-marks. How else do they enter Congress with a small bank account and a few years later are multimillionaires? They must be stopped.

    66. Linda Briles, Ft. Co says:

I believe this is the beginning for alot of people that have been saying, "what can we do"? Now is the time to start and return our country back to the people, not the government. I agree, term limits would be helpful, but educating our young people is going to be so important. Find out what they are being taught in school. Then try to teach our own the fundamentals of our country that are not being taught. We may have to start American Heritage private schools. We need to bring God back into our lives and not be worried about offending someone. It is not too late. The next election is the one to start working for. Go patriots, GO!!!!

    67. Margaret, Pittsburgh says:

I think that the entire Democratic Party is from the "Land of Aaaw's" None of them can speak a complete sentence with saying "aaaww" at least 5 times. Gibbs is an embarassment! Not one of them can think for themselves without Pelosi/Reid setting things up. George Soros is their leader…the evil one, and the rest are his disciples. The devil is loose…we must be very careful.

    68. R Tahse, Bradenton, says:

On April 15th, we should burn our 1040s’ and declare we will no longer pay taxes until Washington stops the spending, listens to the people and balances the budget.

    69. Gladys Denzler, Ric says:

I forgot to put location with my name when I made comment

    70. Peter,Redlands, Ca. says:

I have never been impressed with President Obama's ability to give speeches. I call him President uh-bama, or Buh-rak uh-bama. Our President is an empty suit. His entire term will be mostly pay back for those who set him up. He has no wisdom. For true wisdom comes only from God. We should start a new party.. the conservative party. Leave the republican party for the liberals and moderates. The conservative party will be the main-stream rival to the democrat party, and the republican party will become the 3rd party reserved for fringe kooks

    71. R Tahse, Bradenton, FL says:

On April 15th, we should burn our 1040s’ and declare we will no longer pay taxes until Washington stops the spending, listens to the people and balances the budget.

    72. 13th Generation Amer says:

I am very amused at all the discussion about what to do about America's present crisis, that of an ultra socialist government (President, Congress and Judicial).

The west was warned by Kruschev way back in the mid 1950's while, in Poland, where he said to the west, that they (Bolshevik Leninists) would bury us. (See Time web site; http://www.time.com/time/magazine/article/0,9171,… )

Long before that time and ever since, many patriotic Americans have tried to warn us about and expose all the communist activity already in this country's churches, government and institutions of learning, to say nothing of the media and Hollywood. But the people wouldn't look into it to find out if it was true or false.

I've heard them say time and again "Can't happen here, this is America." Well guess what, IT HAS!!!

What we have now, we brought on ourselves because those who went before us wouldn't speak up and expose traitors by name. Just as we are not doing in our day.

What is the good of a constitution if the people (who are supposed to be the real government) will not or cannot enforce it? It will become just another historic document that gave a ray of hope of what might have been, if we don't enforce it.

And, who needs that for hope? We finally have the greatest hope of all, a president who gives us hope and who will also save us from our folly. Like the Pied Piper, he will pipe all our children off into a sea of debt. "Our" debt generated by years of the easy life and voting irresponsibly.

Let us return to reality, our lives are our own responsibilities, NOT THE GOVERNMENT'S, NOT ANYONE ELSES.

Why aren't we charging those who govern outside of our constitution's limits with TREASON WHILE AT WAR and trying them as Benedict Arnold was. We are at war you know, whether we want to admit it or not.

In fact, we are at war on two fronts; the war against terrorism and the war against those who are overthrowing our constitution. (Do I hear a "Can't happen here, this is the United States?")

IF you believe in the God of America, think about what I've said and then find a quiet place to pray and ask forgiveness then ask for strength and guidance for the fight ahead.

If you are not a believer, but you know yourself to be truly patriot, then you need to ask yourself; "How did I become a believer in the spirit of this country without being a believer in the God of this country first?" If you can't find an answer to that question, then you need to pray and ask God; if you God are real, then reveal Yourself to me.

Just because it is falsely taught in the schools of the left, that this nation WAS NOT founded on the God of the Bible does not make it the truth. And, it is our responsibility to correct this and all the other lies of the left by teaching America's children, our future, the truth.

So, as of today under an ungodly tyrannical government, the rest is up to the real God of America and His working through all the true patriots to TAKE OUR COUNTRY BACK.

Or, do we really have the back bone to try????

    73. Carol, Kansas says:

Mick and Al are right on the money . I would simply adore to take my country back. That may be difficult if the Fascists (Obahma and pals) currently in power manage to highjack the census.

    74. Martine, Bismarck, N says:

Harry in Kansas City wrote: …take a chance and blow the whistle on crooked politicians. …the house cleaning that would occur would make it all worthwhile. For example, the tax cheaters who hold public office. We need these corrupt people exposed, outed, and replaced with upstanding people.

THey already HAVE been exposed, MANY of them. But look how some of them were able to stay in office anyway, chief among them the Treasury Secretary, head of our IRS… Nice role model!!!

Between blatantly corrupt Obama appointees being able to assume/retain their positions, and ACORN cheating at the ballot box, I truly fear for this nation!

I pray this day of tea parties will have SOME impact!

    75. Martine, Bismarck, N says:

Jerry in El Paso wrote that we needed term limts. I've been saying this for some time. That would certainly take care of a lot of the ills of this nation. But how do you get that passed? We have the mice in charge of the cheese?

Here in ND, we vote for republican presidents but keep sending the same dem baffoons to the senate because they are good at bringing home the bacon. If we got rid of earmarks, AND instituted term limits, what a HUGE difference that would make.

Hopefully, that would turn things around if it isn't too late already. Each and every day, there is some startling new event coming from der Fuhrer and the 4TH Reich!!! What would once have been shocking is now becoming passe'. We are becoming desensitized! The next thing I'm expecting is a presidential order that he's naming himself 'president' for life!

    76. Charlie Lenawee Co M says:

Reading the Washington Times (great Conservative Paper btw) this morning there was a blurb about Liberal/Socialist bloggers trying to derail conservative conversation spots like this by misidentifying themselves as conservatives and then posting comments which show varying degrees of support for the liberal ideas being criticized. I believe that is what Cydnie is. Address her once and then ignore her and continue to talk about all that true conservatives value freedom, limited government, and self reliance. One year ago I would have called you a liar if you had told me I would run for elected office. I was approached by other officials in my municipality and convinced to run with much trepidation. I was elected by a margin of over 50% of the votes cast. As a long term member of the Heritage Foundation I have the views that reverberate with my voters. YOU yes you, can make a difference get involved support the country you love.

    77. Gladys Denzler, Ric says:

I am protesting the huge increase in government spending in the upcoming budget, the omnibus spending bill with 8% increase along with 7,000 plus ear-marks, the so-called stimulus bill loaded with $millions for Congress's Pork-Pet projects & pay-backs for special interest, and billions in bail-outs where the public is not made aware of any details. I am also protesting the ear-marks & legislature many in Congress use to pay special interest and enrich themselves. The impeached Blagojevich is accused of using his office to obtain cash & favors from business in return for State contracts. Many in Congress do the same with ear-marks, etc. with no oversight. They enter Congress with small bank accounts and in a few years they are multimillionaires. Fox News did a special last year on ear-marks exposing some of the members who had made millions for themselves and family members off of their ear-marks, it made my blood boil.

    78. Jeff in Indiana says:

The liberals/socialists running this country know full well they are destroying the USA for all time. They are bringing us down for their own personal gain of power. They do not care. They lie, they cheat and they steal from us by taxing us to near death. These are bad people who must be removed from office, and hopefully in disgrace. This is the beginning of the next American Revolution. It will be a long one, as was the first one. I am in this for the long run and refuse to be the generation that watched this greatest of all countries fail.

    79. Barbara, Pennsylvani says:

      Amen to all comments

    80. Marilyn, Houston TX says:

I am traveling on April 15th and can't attend a Tea Party rally – drat! So I'm pasting a T.E.A. (Taxed Enough Already) bumper sticker on my carry-on suitcase and will quietly but obviously protest as I walk through the airports and stand in lines! Even if I can't be there, I can still have my say! LOL!

    81. Robert, Midland Texa says:

President Obama is an integral part of this country's problem, but greater than his part is the part of congressional leaders that are career

politicians. We need leaders today that still believe the Constitution is the greatest document for freedom that the world has ever seen. I am a firm believer that if this country loses the first and second amendments to our Constitution then the fall of the United States as we know it today is inevetable.

Our TEA party in Midland is on the 18th of April.

I ask for all conservatives that read this will hold us up in prayer that day.

    82. John Robertson, Sout says:

What we need as much as anything is to get a term limits bill passed. How? This would go a long way toward getting "our voice" back in Washington.

If the education system doesn't lose the Bill Ayers communist mindset, none of this will make much of a difference I'm afraid. It only took liberal teachers and professors one generation to dumb down enough useful idiots through public schools to elect a hardcore progressive(socialist)and believe that capitalism is bad, while socialism is good for America. We must retake ecucation now.

      We are being robbed.

The people who are STILL robbing us are getting away with it.

America is going to face a WORSE crisis in the future because of this "stimulus" initiated by the Federal Reserve, Bernenke, Bush, Hank Paulson, and others.

There are no robert's rules of order at these events. They won't be able to cheat and break rules to get their way like they have in the past to silence the silent majority growing angry. They best not turn this peaceful protest into something that would incite more anger at the GOP leadership.

We already ARE angry at the democrats and especially the GOP leadership, republicans, neo-cons, neo-libs and etc.

On election day I was in mourning over the election results…not because of the party but because of the man. Not because of color but because of the lack of values. The only way to reclaim our Great Country is to be united. When we tell God to go sit on a shelf you are no longer wanted or needed we put ourselves in grave danger. Americans are all about freedom its the American way and we want it back. Can we last for four years the way it has been going for five months? UNITED WE STAND-Divided we fall!

    88. Mike, Elko, NV says:

This isn't a left or right issue; this is an issue of limited government and returning to the contract between government and the people. 3/4 of the so-called conservative Republicans voted for the 1st TARP bill and all of them should be replaced.

I will support politicians who will abolish the Dept of Energy, Education, Transportation and all other Federal Agencies not explicitly authorized by the Constitution. The rest deserve no support.

We will have our tea party downtown on Wednesday. Some kind soul is appropriately bringing a large pig trough into which we throw our tea bags.

    89. Marlo Andersen, Provo, UT says:

Points submitted so far in this series hit all around the basic problems, but don’t hit any squarely. Many of our “representatives” are really representing only their party and the lobbiests who fund their re-elections, but have to throw a few entitlements to their constituents to make it look to the constituents that they are being served. Most living today do not remember the days before the 17th Amendment & I don’t either, but I have read about it. That amendment was promoted to put more power directly in the hands of the electorate, but it was guise for centralizing the work of special interest groups through lobbiests only in Washington instead of having to also lobby all 48 (then) state legislatures that told their senators how to vote. Senators were then elected by the state legislature. Repealing that amendment would go along way toward restoring the “balance of power” that our founders designed into our system of government, and make it a lot harder for a party or a gang of lobbiests to direct the government.

Second point is that congress gives themselves whatever privileges (entitlements) they want. That is one definition of an aristocracy which violates the basic concept that the founding fathers had for our representatives in government. To fully accomplish this, in my opinion, we need an amendment that restricts congress from giving themselves any entitlement that is not given to all citizens. We need to take away their congressional pensions and other perks, put them on Social Security & eliminate seniority. Then there would be no need for term limits.

    90. Terry Justice, Waver says:

I agree with Marlo and most of the other comments above. I also appreciate the Heritage Foundation for making this forum possible. Taxation without representation, we are all participating in a series of tax laws or rules that have existed and evolved over a long period of time and none of us have really provided or had any direct input or approval for any of it. These laws or rules were implimented by people supposedly elected to serve and speak on behalf of the citizens of the communities in this country or at least I think that is what most people propably believe. As a citizen I have an extremely hard time trying to understand why any body of people would establish and or allow the establishment of a system which would not only allow but by law authorize the confiscation of the privite property of another citizen for the sake of operating a government, especially when you consider the intent behind our declaration and constitution. True we are all a part of the greatest nation and society that has probably ever existed and it is understood that there must be some form or means of collectivly acquiring the vast amount of monies necessary to ensure that the freedoms and concepts established through our declaration and constitution are maintained but a system which requires an individual to relinquish personal property for the sake of feeding a body of govenment is nothing short of tyrrany itself. There should not be any type or form of tax mechanism or code in existance which would require a citizen to pay a "right to keep personal property" fee. This is no differnt then having the mob come collect extorsion money. If you don't pay up we're going to come break something or in the governments case if you don't pay up will come take something or everything you have to satify your imaginary debt to society! This I believe is constitutionaly wrong. I belive it is possible to create some type of nationalized and equitable system which will accumulate the funds necessary to operate what should be only basic fundamental federal programs necessary to ensure the maintance of our freedoms established through our declaration and consitution. Government is no longer by the people for the people. Currently government is by an incredibly small group of people who are influenced by an incrediably large amount extortion money. We need to wake up!

    91. Greg, Columbus, OH says:

Outstanding points Marlo!! Repealing the 17th amendment may be the single most effective option to limiting the power in Washington.

Took the 9-12 principles and characteristics off the Glen Beck website (We Surround Them) and put them in bright Oil Pastels on a t-shirt. Used the Snake from the Don't Tread on Me flag at the 'background' of the Principles, etc. If we get creative in a positive way, we can get people asking us what we're about in positive ways. I expect a lot of people to approach me and ask the simple question "What does all that mean?" If we are reasonable and not angry when we speak to the 'left'(who are always angry), and show we are principled people not rebellious then we can get them to listen. As to O'Bama's statement that we are not a Christian nation, "Poppycock". He wants to Secularize, Criminalize Global warming denyers, destabilize the nation to the extent that Martial Law will be the end result, and in the end, will give away our nation to settle our 'debts' that he is making even more burdensome. The basis for the nation was Christianity, but over the years, the schools and TV have de-Christianized the national conversation, making 'belief' in anything by humanism a crime. Our Constitution is at risk due to his belief that it's a flawed document and should be updated to meet the 21st century. There is more at stake in this process than just spending. It's the whole fabric of society that is being desolved. Those of us who follow traditional Christian belief systems will be at risk under this administration. They will want to not only silence the Conservatives, the Global warming denyers, and the Conservative Talk show people, but also anyone who has a traditional 'faith'. Faith is the enemy of Progressivism because it looks to someone other than the state to fulfill their needs.

Here in Montana the tea party has become a major right wing party too far to the right. They are even rejecting democrats involvement in the tea parties. One employer stated on our state website that on 4/15 he will start firing anyone who voted for the left. This is an outrage and totally not what America needs. I did not believe this until I went to the website myself and mention this and my comments were blocked so I posted again and mention "free speech" and again blocked. We as Americans have the right to address the government with grievances as we will do on April 15th. But without some clear goals and agenda, we become just a reed blowing in the wind.

From these meetings, we as Americans need to gather momentum on specific points and then drive those points to successful completion.

Those sent to Washington DC to serve the people (that is their job), are getting caught up in lobbying and congressional caucuses, which drown out the voice of we the people.

The current congress has shown time and again that they do not care about what the people of this nation want. They have their own self serving (now mostly Marxist) agenda and are spending their time in its execution. This is exactly why the people are angry.

We the people need to change the current congress as quickly as possible (vote them all out), then amend the constitution to make clear our power to recall congressional members who do not serve the will of the people. Without this key definition in the 10th amendment, no congressional member has accountability and therefore they will continue to serve special interests and party focus.

Just as we working people are responsible to our management, so should congress be responsible to those people who voted them into office. Just as business has the responsibility to dismiss its non performing individuals, we the people should make clear our power, to dismiss poorly performing federal congressional members.

I would like to know a couple things…First, how come there weren't any "tea parties" the last 3 or 4 years when Bush's policies were helping create our current problems? Secondly, how come the individuals calling foul on obama's rescue plan never offer an alternative plan of their own, they just complain. Do the people who disagree with obama think that the economy would fix itself if he just let it go? Barrack Obama wasn't my pick for president, but i'm going to have to call shenanigans on the people causing a stink right now. We can all sit around and speculate and piss and moan but this guy is actually trying to do something about it. I'm not judging him until i can determine whether he has failed or suceeded. All the busy body people with the big mouthes would be wise to do the same.

    106. USAFRN, Montana says:

      Hi Tim,

To answer your first question, the Tea Parties are about protesting higher/more taxes and out of control spending. They aren't an anti-Obama thing nor are they a Republican vs Democrat thing, they are an American thing. The so-called recent stimulus bill had 9,000 earmarks in it… 60% of which came from Democrats, but 40% came from Republicans! Bush didn't raise taxes he lowered them, which helped to get us out of the recession he inherited from Clinton. Remember, the economy was good for 6 of Bush's 8 years. So when you talk about, “Bush policies the last 3 or 4 years”….specifically which policies are you referring to? I believe the Bush policy that hurt the economy the most was not having a tight enough regulation and oversight on the Wall Street moguls. Now, was it Bush's fault that he could not predict how greedy and corrupt they would become? No,that's a moral thing and everyone is responsible for their own behavior. But it was the lack of a tighter regulation policy that lead to them getting away with it.

As to your second question, the Republicans DID offer alternative plans. Republicans in both House and Senate offered plans that they claimed would have cost less and created more jobs. They were soundly rejected by the Democrat majority both in the House and Senate. Instead, the Democrats rammed through a “stimulus” package that even most Democrates admitted not having had enough time to read in it's entirety.

So while we're on policies…..lets look at the other side too.(fair and balanced right?) When the Democrats came back into power Barney Frank the head of the banking committee, and the Democrats insisted that Fannie and Freddie increase the quota on risky housing loans. (this policy was started by Clinton in 1994, but not at the high quota rate). Fannie and Freddie executives cooked the books and received huge bonuses for meeting the quotas. These were sub-prime loans made to low income and minority people who not only couldn't qualify for a loan, but would probably never be able to pay their loans back. These bad loans were in effect cosigned by the tax payers of America because they were backed by the government. Fannie and Freddie then “bundled” these bad loans and sold them to other banks, effectively polluting our banking system with bad loans. That wasn't a Bush policy, it was a Democrat policy. Is it a nice fuzzy warm feeling policy…..sure, everybody should have the American dream of owning their own home. But is it a sustainable reality? No, and how do you think all of those people feel now that their homes are being foreclosed on? It was a setup for failure!

Fannie and Freddie gave huge campaign donations to 354 congressmen and senators, from BOTH PARTIES. Their top 4 recipients? Sen. Christopher Dodd, (D-CT) Chairman of the Banking, Housing, & Urban Affairs Committee, Sen. Barack Obama,(D-IL) Federal Financial Management Committee, Sen.Chuck Schumer(D-NY)Chairman of the Finance Committee, and Rep.Barney Frank,(D-MA)Chairman of the House Financial Services Committe. When Bush's housing regulators raised the red flag and Bush proposed a new oversight committee for Fannie and Freddie, they were accused of witch hunting and bigotry. Nothing was done until it was too late and the housing market collapsed. Fannie and Freddie had to be bailed out with our tax dollars. Notice that the Dodd video then blames the same said regulators for not giving enough oversight!

So you see Tim, there is plenty of blame to go around. But continuing the same old Bush bashing and calling people names is only another form of “piss and moan”.

Really, Dennis. Hand and hand, eh? Was Eisenhower an socialist? Because I think he was a patriot who fought for this country, for the world, and then became a respectable REPUBLICAN President. And taxes during his administration: the highest rate was over 90%. AND there was no special treatment for capital gains — 90%, too.

Mythology. That's all you get when you ignore history. But what history does show us is that today's problems did not come from Democrats or Republicans — it came from corruption, and both sides are steeped in it.

The enemy isn't government, it isn't a political party, a foreign community, or even a particular policy like universal health care or ending abortion. The enemy is, and only is, corruption. It is the true thief of our government representation. Forget "taxation without representation". We have no say because only the lobbyist and (major) campaign contributors have any say.
