    Senator John Kerry

Senator John Kerry stressed that the economy cannot be a scapegoat for not implementing carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gas reductions. He went so far as to call doing nothing a “suicide pact”.

Forget cost and forget the recession, says Kerry:

“Climate change is not governed by a recession, it’s governed by scientific facts about what’s happening to Earth. And you either accept the realities of the science or you don’t. You don’t enter a mutual suicide pact because the economy is having a hard time right now.”

Senator Kerry has one thing right; it should be governed by scientific facts. But according to renowned scientists and climatologists from around the world, the debate’s not over. (See here, here, here and here.)

Global Warming Sells, But Who’s Really Buying?

Global warming policy can sound pretty good one sound byte at a time. But as Americans learn more, they are buying it a lot less. That is because Americans are beginning to understand that a cap-and-trade program to reduce carbon dioxide emissions is nothing more than a regressive tax that will raise energy prices and cost Americans jobs – all for little, if any, environmental gain. A cap-and-trade is a less predictable version of a carbon tax and there is plenty of reason and hope Americans won’t stand for an expensive energy tax, especially in a recessionary environment.

It is shaping up that if Congress passes any version of a cap-and-trade bill, just like the stimulus spending, it will come with large public dissent. In fact, a recent Gallup pole announced that

Although a majority of Americans believe the seriousness of global warming is either correctly portrayed in the news or underestimated, a record-high 41% now say it is exaggerated.” This is up from just 30% in 2006.

And maybe that is why we are starting to see a ramp up in the rhetoric from the global warming alarmists. The numbers don’t lie; support for global warming policies are eroding, faster than polar ice caps, as it turns out.

So how will the public react if the government signs into law a stringent cap-and-trade scheme to reduce carbon? Rajendra Pachauri’s, head of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), answer to that question is revolution:

He [Obama] is not going to say by 2020 I’m going to reduce emissions by 30 per cent. He’ll have a revolution on his hands. He has to do it step by step.”

The Reagan Revolution rose out of American discontent with an out of touch government. History might once again be repeating itself.

Hopefully, that is exactly what happens and we do revolt this farce. Between cap and trade and limiting emissions, all of this is to try to control the People and limit Capitalism. It is great to see people are wising up and realize the science does not make any sense and that the taxes are detrimental to everyone.

    2. Ozzy6900, CT says:

we must all remember that Sen. John Kerry is NOT a Scientist, he is a Politician. We must also remember that Science does not function on consensus, it functions on FACTS! Only Politicians deal through consensus. Global Warming is one of the biggest TAX FARCES we have ever seen in our time and needs to be put to bed ASAP!

    3. ra,ohio says:

Sen. John Kerry is nothing more than a HACK.

Eventually the REAL SCIENTISTS will get the word out.

The problem is that there are so many ignorant people out there that VOTE, the process will take longer than it should.

This administration is purposely, systematically destroying this economy.

    4. island says:

      Kerry lies:

"Climate change is not governed by a recession, it's governed by scientific facts about what's happening to Earth."

      This maniac has to go.

Hey idiot, it is a scientific fact that what is happening to the Earth is being *governed* by the recession. Nature balances all budgets fool, but you wouldn't recognize a self-"governing"/regulating system if your life depended on it, you ideologically righteous fanatic.

Co2 emissions have been drastically reduced by the recession and the developing countries have all but stopped industry related carbon emissions, you willfully blind little moron.

    5. Margaret says:

I strongly disagree with your assessment that Glaobal Warming is not a serious threat. One can always find someone with some credentials that will disagree with others. But, the consequences of little action on our part in reacting to this situation will be dire. I for one am not willing to play politics with a matter as important as this one is to the entire world. Sure, it sounds good right now to say we should not be pursuing cap and trade and use the reccession as an excuse not to, but I am willing to pay a little more to ensure we do all we can to stop a downward sprial. I don't need scientists to tell me what I should believe. I can see the results of this warming all around me-every day. Say what you will about Senator Kerry, but I know he has been concerned and researching this issues for more years than Al Gore. Frankly, I trust his judgement on this more than a political organization that seems to think it has found an issue it can go after the Democrats with. As I said before, I am not willing to play politics with this issue. I would rather error on the side of caution, then ignore the signs around me to save a nickle or two.

    6. Spiritof76, New Hamp says:

Strip Kerry and his wife of all their homes, jets, automobiles and all the luxuries they enjoy while preaching to all of us about the impending global warming disaster because we desire a high standard of living. Kerry should have been court-martialed when he returned from Paris after talking to our enemies from N.Vietnam when he was still in the service.

    7. larrydalooza, illino says:

CO2 is our friend. You will not demonize this TRACE GAS on my watch.

    8. Elmo P. says:

      Margaret,

You say you can see the results of global warming around you every day.

Does this include the record cold temperatures being reported and the FACT that world temperatures have been dropping fot he last decade?

    9. Dr. Albert Gortenbul says:

The planet Mars and earth have each warmed by about 1/2 degree C since the mid 1970's and the polar caps on both planets have receded. How does Senator Kerry explain the global warming of Mars? Mankind's Mars spacecraft are solar powered and don't emit any CO2? Respectfully, Albert

    10. Larry, ILL. says:

Margaret: Are you serious? 'Global Warming'is a scheme. LOOK around you! 30 states with record or near-record cold the past several winters. Most of the 'Global Warming "scientists" are getting money to promote their agenda. You are the reason that this crap goes on.

    11. Ozzy6900, CT says:

Margaret, I say to you as I say to everyone that I discuss Global Warming with…… Show us the proof! Show us the P R O V E N Scientific facts, not the bellowing of Political hacks. List the Scientists that have proved the Scientific Fact (not a consensus) that Global Warming exists. Show us how an ecosystem that has sustained millions of years of change, disruption and attack from mega-projectiles from space can be influenced by the insignificant organism called Man. Finally, explain to us all why only twenty or so years ago, you all cried that the Earth was cooling and now She has changed her mind?

Let me save you a lot of wasted research time. You cannot prove it and you never will!

    12. Antonio Sosa, Florid says:

More and more scientists and thinking people all over the world are realizing that man-made global warming is a hoax that threatens our future and the future of our children. More than 650 international scientists dissented last year over the man-made global warming claims. They are more than 12 times the number of UN scientists (52) who authored the media-hyped IPCC 2007 Summary for Policymakers. http://epw.senate.gov/public/index.cfm?FuseAction

In addition to the 650 dissenting international scientists, 32,000 American scientists have signed onto a petition that states, "There is no convincing scientific evidence that human release of carbon dioxide, methane, or other greenhouse gases is causing or will, in the foreseeable future, cause catastrophic heating of the Earth’s atmosphere and disruption of the Earth’s climate…" http://www.petitionproject.org/index.html

"Progressive" (communist) politicians like Obama seem determined to force us to swallow the man-made global warming scam. We need to defend ourselves from the UN and these politicians, who threaten our future and the future of our children. Based on a lie, they have already wasted billions and plan to increase taxes, limit development, and enslave us.

If not stopped, the global warming scam will enrich the scammers (Gore and Obama’s Wall Street friends), increase the power of the U.N. and communists like Obama, and multiply poverty and servitude for the rest of us.

    13. Barb -mn says:

You can call global warming a serious threat. But don't call it man-made. It's nature. Natural resources are in this earth as provisions of survival. It is unfortunate that those in government will not accept nature! Or natural phenomenon Or the facts! And will burden the people with costs and compromise and indoctrination on this and other subject matters of their choosing…just another way the government can cheat and steal legally.

    14. THOMAS GRAY, SC says:

      Nickle or two ? ,

I suppose the latest pork package our fine president just signed is helping our economy ?

and you support THE plan to TRASH our industry and to TRASH our manufacturing and TRASH our utility's ? to more than double the cost of electricity ?

A nickle or two ? lady your NUTS.

    17. Patricia,, DC says:

Global warning is a hoax perpertrated by global politicians to get money and power. In Al Gore's case its a chance to stay in the limelight while he himself breaks all the rules he wants the rest of us to follow

    18. Neal Lang, Boca Rato says:

"I can see the results of this warming all around me-every day."

      But:

"Top UN scientists have been forced to admit that natural weather occurrences are having a far greater effect on climate change than CO2 emissions as a continued cooling trend means there has been no global warming since 1998.

"But despite overwhelming signs of global cooling – China's coldest winter for 100 years and record snow levels across Northeast America – allied with temperature records showing a decline – global warming advocates still cling to the notion that the world is cooling because of global warming!"

Hmmm! And just what planet do you live on?

    19. Bluezguise - NJ says:

      To Margaret

Margaret, I enjoyed the passio and honesty in your message. I believe you are incorrect tho on two key points.

"I am willing to pay a little more to ensure we do all we can to stop a downward sprial."

You're right. Me too. The problem is we need to be sure we "pay a little more" only in those areas that will stimulate our ruptured economy. Even if cap and trade is a good idea, this would be the worst possible time to employ it. Factory costs, gas prices, electricity, buying a toaster oven, even purchasing do-it-yourself items at Lowes to save a few bucks will go up in price. This at a time when people need more money in their pockets not less.

"I don’t need scientists to tell me what I should believe."

Again, you are right. It's easy to single out a scientist here or there to get your opinions validated. But, keep in mind, it was scientists who first established that global warming and greenhouse gases might be a problem. Not the media. The media only presented this. Suddenly, there has been a widespread change though. Our media stopped presenting the facts surrounding global warming, they are now advocating and presenting a case for it. If you dig around a little you will find that among the sceintific community far more qualified scientists disagree with the idea of manmade global warmiong and its dmages tahn do. You may be surprised to learn that more climatologists think it is overhyped than consider it a problem. In fact, the media is frequently guilty of just what you described, handpicking global warming enthusiats to present their case.

The best I can suggest is do your own research adn avoid being sold a bill of goods either for or against. The deeper you look into the issue, the more suspect the alarmism becomes. That alone, during these strident times should be ebnough to say, we need to look before we spend.

    20. Brenda, Arizona says:

Margaret, although you are entitled to your opinion I don't see it as being a fact. There is one very major discussion that needs to happen with people that think this global warming is real. It is the fact that both Kerry and Gore live in mansions, drive big autos or limos, private jets, etc. I have heard that Gores monthly utility bill is extremely high for his 20K sq ft mansion. Now, bottom line is if these politicians really believe we have a global warming issue would they not down size to save the planet???? They want us the citizens of this country to pay through outrageous tax, utility bill increases, etc stating we have an obligation. What about their obligation??

    21. Bill PhD, Texas says:

      Margaret

      Some questions for you.

How is it that ice cores from deep inside glaciers show that CO2 levels peak some 800 years after temperature does?

If this is so, how is it that rising CO2 is considered by policy makers and some government grant-funded scientists as the cause of global warming and not the effect?

If in the past CO2 kept rising after temperature peaked, why didn't temperature itself keep rising back then since according to the anthropogenic global warming theory increases in trace levels of CO2 cause global temperature to increase?

In my opinion, the argument that we are causing global warming is primarily a tax scam.

    22. Mike, Hickory, NC says:

Isn't it so very revealing how, despite any and all evidence and facts to the contrary, like "blindly devoted spouses", the Socialist Left keeps insisting and talking as if "anthropomorphic (man-caused) global warming" or "climate change" is a purely scientifically established fact, established beyond any question or doubt whatsoever, when it continues to be anything but purely scientifically established beyond any question or doubt (as verified by thousands of scientists and hundreds of millions of us people who are as credentialed or as creidible as you please)?

Indeed it is so very revealing when people, including this writer, watch Al Gore, on national television, sit there and, with the evasive arrogance and haughtiness of the stereotypical blustering and bluffing megalomaniac "caught with his hand in the cookie jar", try to bluster and bluff his way through yet again evading yet another challenge of evidence and facts against his "anthropomorphic global warming" demagoguing and pandering.

Oh but of course according to such Socialist Left authoritarians, (including Comrades Obama, Kerry, Al Gore and their Comrades in government, academia, the media, and elsewhere), we must not doubt or question what they say; never mind that we, the earth's environment, and practically everything under, around, and above us is carbon-based and acts and/or produces likewise; never mind that the environmental temperature is going down (cooler); never mind that it has snowed and/or is snowing in places where it hasn't snowed in ages, if ever, and never mind any other evidence and facts to the contrary against their Leftist government elitist "anthropomorphic global warming" mantra and agenda.

Indeed, once again, the facts don't count to the Socialist Left, only their Socialist government elitist power and money-grabbing agenda counts.

    26. Hannelore Morton, Al says:

Anyone with a rudimentary understanding of biology and chemistry knows that without carbon dioxide there would be no oxygen to breath. Curtail carbon dioxide and you curtail fresh air. Plain and simple, 100% of the time, carbon dioxide is the food that is consumed by oxygen-producing plant life. Photosynthesis. A metabolic process that converts carbon dioxide into glucose. The byproduct of the process is oxygen and water. Without oxygen and water, we die. The cycle continues as long as there is carbon dioxide. Eliminate carbon dioxide all oxygen breathing life is in trouble. Which, of course, is precisely what the Democrats are stupidly trying to do.

    29. Ross, Bradenton Fla says:

Another power grab by those who want to take away our freedom using 'junk science', with the taxpayers money being directed toward this 'js', and finally, trying to instilling fear in the youngest and the ignorant in the name of science. Elementary logic would surmise that the sun has a rhythm all its own that has everything to do with the earth's weather; not to mention the wobbly axis of the earth and an the 'egg shaped' earth orbit around the sun.

As to the cosmos and scheme of things, time is relevant. And man causing 'greenhouse gases' is absurd, one volcano erruption can spew more 'greenhouse gases' in one day than man has added to the atmosphere in a millenium.

Next we'll be hearing that the theory of evolution has been proven and that it's only true explanation…Oh, I forgot that has already started.

    30. Nan says:

The best way to solve this debate is to take Al Gore, and the government paid, and politically correct scientists and lock them up in the North Pole for 5 years. After they have collected their weather samples, then maybe we will listen!

    31. Sam Kendall, Wiscons says:

I am astounded at how the liberal media and politicians keep making a mole hill out of a mountain in regards to the economy and entitlement spending. Whereas with the environment, they keep making a thunderclap out of a fart. As far as I'm concerned there might be climate change, but we have no influence or control over it and there can't be any Global Warming if winter weather keeps getting worse where I live.
