  • Stimulating Illegal Immigration

There has been considerable debate over whether the proposed economic stimulus bill will actually stimulate anything other than an avalanche of new government spending and higher taxes. Well, the Senate has now ensured that its version of the bill will stimulate growth in yet another undesirable area: illegal immigration.

Passed by the House last week and currently under consideration in the Senate, the economic stimulus bill could provide employment for illegal immigrants. Whereas the House version of the bill explicitly barred the employment of illegal aliens in stimulus-funded construction projects, the Senate bill strips these away these protections. Should the Senate version become law, as Heritage Foundation Senior Research Fellow Robert Rector noted this afternoon, 15 percent of all construction jobs created under the economic stimulus bill will go to illegal immigrants.

Imagine that! Perhaps these are the "non white, non high skilled" that were referred to in an explanation of the "Stimulus Package" recently? I can't remember who it was because there is just so much BS coming out of our Government, I loose track! Sorry.

    2. James Andersen, North Carolina says:

It is unfortunate that our government would create any jobs that would encourage illegal immigration in such hard times (or in any times). When will our government realize that the problem with the economy is that American jobs have moved overseas and temporary construction jobs that will pay low wages is not the answer. We cannot compete with the labor costs of China and India, obviously the idea of globalization is not working.

    3. max says:

this is whats known as a mexican stand-off both leagals and illegals have suffered looks like they are going to win Muchos Gracius Senate glad you can help.

    4. Delaware Bob says:

There is no doubt this is shameful. Absoutely SHAMEFUL! With so many Americans out of work now, how they could even consider a job for someone, who by law, should NOT even be in this Country is way beyond me.

Now I can’t say the ILLEGAL ALIENS are completely to blame for the shape of our economy, but they are a BIG part of the problem. The ILLEGAL ALIENS send BILLIONS upon BILLIONS out of this Country every year, money we will NEVER see again. Does this help our economy?

How about the BILLIONS the American taxpayers fork out for the ANCHOR BABIES, the schooling of them, the medical care and the list goes on, and on, and on.

How about the MILLIONS upon MILLIONS paid to jail ILLEGAL ALIENS for the crimes, then the cost to deport them. Does this help our economy?

Then you have these activist groups, the Catholic Church and the ACLU that want AMNESTY for these ILLEGAL ALIENS. It would be absolute suicide for this Country if AMNESTY were granted to the 20 million or so ILLEGAL ALIENS. We have more and more people out of work everyday and they want to add another 20 million to this Country? I say, “NO”!

If AMNESTY were ever granted to these 20 million ILLEGAL ALIENS, you can bet big money that 3 years from now, there would be ANOTHER 3-5 million ILLEGAL ALIENS demonstrating on our soil for AMNESTY not counting the blanket AMNESTY. Is this what we want for our Country?

An end MUST come to this illegal immigration. The perfect tool we have so far is E-Verify. It MUST be used by ALL businesses and Government Social Services. EVERY employee must be checked! If they are illegal, they are to be dismissed!

I believe it is time for all 50 States to pass a State law, like Arizona, Oklahoma, Mississippi, Missouri, South Carolina and a few others. It is time for these ILLEGAL ALIENS to go back to their home Country and get out of this Country. The problems they are causing will not go away until the ILLEGAL ALIENS are out of this Country. I think that is plain to see.

    5. Cynthia Feldsher Helman says:

When congress loans banks like Bank of America will they have any rules about lending to illegals. This became one of the results in which the housing market failed. If we don’t get a handle on illegal immigration we will most certainly see more failure in our country. Making it so easy to come here and not pay taxes. Using our healthcare and education then take the money they make here back to their home country, is a disgrace and unfair to the American taxpayers. I feel like we’re in the twilight zone!!!

    6. Sandy, IL says:

There is currently an amnesty bill working it's way through congress. I don't know the bill number but everyone needs to write their Congressmen and tell them no amnesty! I don't understand what they don't get about this issue. Though I do know it's a subject near and dear to Reid's heart. Also, we need to write our Senators telling them you want the E-Verify requirement to remain attached to the simulus package. If it is, those receiving stimulus money would be REQUIRED to verify every employee is a legal citizen of the U.S.

    7. Sam, AZ says:

Hiring undocumented workers is already a violation, so it is going a bit far to say that the stimulus bill is encouraging the hiring of illegal immigrants. The real question is whether the e-verify program works well enough to demand that everyone who gets government money has to use it. The problem with E-Verify is that the government isn't spending the time and money to make it work. Even then, I hate the idea that I am going to have to start carrying a national ID card and be asking my government for permission to work. I've heard stories of citizens getting denied by this program. Anyone who is concerned about the efficiency of our government should be very wary of this program.

As for the "20 million illegals", they are already working so you can't say that forcing them to get legal will mean 20 million more workers. I would rather force them to pay a fine and get legal so that they aren't undercutting the wages of U.S. workers. All these raids and sweeps cost millions of dollars that could be spent on arresting real criminals. If they don't have a criminal record, make the illegals pay a fine and make sure they are paying all their taxes.

    8. Jimmy Konogeris - Ma says:

Delaware Bob's ending comment is very correct. All 50 states need to address the "illegals" issue collectively. Amnesty in any way, shape or form should NEVER become an option…..Please please understand they are not legal immigrants. Their allegiance is not to our country. They could be considered as kind of merceneries which are in part are sustaining their country of origins' economy. This whole mess needs a strong handle. In the sixties and earlier( I think) the "Brazro Program" seem sucessful. I'm contacting elected officials to vote no on any amnesty!

    9. claire, cinti, oh says:

i note that all anyone talks about are the poor being hurt.

what about the many that have lost non labor intensive jobs?

Like the banker tellers, retail workers and small business who

can't do the manual labor that this package is talking about

and will take YEARS to come to fruition!

    10. John Rosky , Andover says:

Pelosi and Reid should be removed from any position in the federal government. When they can

not listen to the American People about Illegals and even enforce the laws of the US they are criminals themself. They are calling for the raids on illegals to stop and do not want local

law enforcement to stop vehicles that they suspect

have illegals in them. If this is the case than local law enforcement should not arrest bank robbers or violators of any other federal law. They want to have selective enforcement.

There has to be something in this joke of a bill that makes it mandatory that all employees be US citizens or legal residents.

    11. ocala florida says:

THE IMMIGRANTS WILL BE SHOVEL READY TO LAY THE ASPHALT AND WORK ON THE HOT ROOFS, PICKING TOMATOES AND LAYING SOD. THIS IS PUTTING WORKERS BACK TO WORK.BUT GIVING FEW AMERICANS WELL PAYING JOBS. THIS STIMULUS FOR GIVING JOBS FAILS TO SPECIFY WHAT KIND OF WORK. WHAT A MESS! I DON’T BUY IT! I ALWAYS BELIEVED THAT THE PEOPLE RULE BUT NOT SO. WHAT HAS HAPPENED TO THE AMERICANS? ARE WE AFRAID TO ACT.. AT LEAST FRANCE AND THE UK HAVE THE GUTS ENOUGH TO PROTEST.ALL WE DO IT BITCH.. IT GETS US NOWHERE..

    12. JB, Wellesley, MA says:

February 4, 2009 James Andersen, North Carolina writes:…When will our government realize that the problem with the economy is that American jobs have moved overseas…We cannot compete with the labor costs of China and India, obviously the idea of globalization is not working."

Globalization, in its 20-21st century incarnation, continues to deliver extraordinary profits to business elite at the expense of labor. This is certainly nothing new. What is new is that a majority of American workers have felt its fierce affect directly for the first time. Had a little forethought and money been spent restructuring the American workforce the eventuality of things could be going down a bit better. But that would have meant making a long-term investment, in the America people. And, who would be crazy enough to make a bet like that? Certainly not a businessman when not even the U.S. government cared to. Americans have come to be like all the other little people in the world-expendable. A bitter pill to swallow, but the sooner we wake up to the reality that Obama et al have no intention of changing course the sooner we can begin the dreaded job of trying to wrench our nation back from the brink.

      Good luck!

    13. Phil says:

I always thought that Govt borrowing and spending were

      probably contributing to illegal immigration.

During Bushes first 6 years in office the Govt borrowed

      and spent 3 trillion dollars,

Thats enough money to pay 10 million people $50000 year

      for those 6 years.

What do we need to do in America to make Americans realize that "life as we once knew it," is over.

What will it take to pound-home the realism that Americans will be taking "any job" they can be lucky enough to get, ASAP..

Who are we to decide what any Americans is willing to do, to keep a roof over their families heads and food on the table while millions are losing jobs in every sector.

We have a bummper sticker here in AZ which reads, "Hire American." It should be a central theme in every state in the U.S.

If you read "Bob from Delaware's" well written breakdown you will understand further that on certain "State levels," many have taken the law to a different place because under eight year of G.B the Federal laws , the millions paid out by the Chamber of Commernce, and ACLU influences, have allowed the total break-down of the Federal Laws on immigration.

No one talks about this accept Lou Dobbs.

Every city throughout the U.S. that boost , being a sanctuary city, should be atomatically with-held any Federally funding on all levels. They are direct violation of all Federal Law written regarding illegal immigration which.

The laws that have been adopted by the States mentioned in Bob's comments were first made into policy here in AZ. Our fornmer Gov. is now the newly appointed Head of Homeland Security by the Obama Admin. She has influence. Please email her at her current office, tell her how you feel on the current topic(s) .

I am so tird of hearing about poor old CA.

      "How broke they are."

Yesterday they stated they will be running out of water.

Arnold gets up there and crys wolf, moans to the camera, and looks pretty so concerned .

Well why not recoup the $$$,$$$,$$$,$$$ spent on entitlemnt programs from all the sanctuary cities through-out the state. The immigration policy there has broken the spine and the back-bone of a once progressive public school system. No wonder Arnold and Maria send their kids to private school in the land of milk and honey which is "no more.'

An so the public crying and begging continues from CA .

One of the biggest hold-outs for all that has been said here regarding the backlash of this topic is MS Pilosi. The Chamber of Commerce has been supporting her for years.

What a dissappointment she turned out to be.

But! after all said; NO ONE THERE EVER CHANGES A THING.same old, same old.,

I guess i just don't get how the public who is paying for this would not become more pro-active to protect thier state for the tax paying citizens.

    16. Barb -mn says:

What happened to EQUAL OPPORTUNITY? What happened to hiring the qualified without singling out citizen status or skin color? What happened to the law of immigration? Why do they insist on drawing sympathies and hold hands of all those who are not white?

And how safe will construction be with criminals working on it?

The government is breaking OUR LAWS! Instead of holding illegals accountable with reprimand, government intervenes with our money, jobs and unnecessary programs so they may prosper twice as fast. The legal and illegal immigrants are succeeding wealth, not of their own accord, but at our expense. Their take home pay is their disposable income as most all other living expenses is being paid through programs that never existed until they arrived.
