    Wisconsin’s New ‘Pork Czar’

As states begin to line up for their portion of the Pelosi-Reid-Obama debt plan, many of them aren’t even waiting for the legislation to be passed to prepare the ways they can spend your tax dollars.  In Wisconsin, Gov. James E. Doyle went as far as creating an “Office of Recovery and Reinvestment” to “start laying the groundwork for quickly moving the federal stimulus money out the door, to maintain jobs, to create new jobs and to invest in economic growth in the state.” America’s Dairyland turned to livestock and created its … More

    No Time for Defense Cuts

Today, President Barack Obama will visit the Pentagon where Secretary of Defense Robert Gates will introduce Obama to all the key players in formulating strategies for Iraq and Afghanistan. Yesterday, Secretary Gates testified before the House Armed Services committees on budgetary pressures facing the Pentagon. Commenting on Gates’ testimony at Politico, Heritage Senior Fellow James Carafano writes: In his draft testimony, Gates wailed he’ll have to make “hard choices” on weapons spending. Since he rightly points out five Pentagon programs “account for half of total cost growth in weapons spending,” … More

Morning Bell: The Pelosi-Obama-Reid Trillion Dollar Debt Plan

Last Friday we warned you about some family planning provisions tucked away in the House stimulus bill.  Some conservative lawmakers then took up the issue on the Sunday shows, and the provisions quickly became a symbol of how completely unrelated to “economic stimulus” the House bill really is.  Being the savvy political operator he is, President Barack Obama has now instructed House Democrats to remove that one provision. But, like much of Obama’s presidency so far, this was a completely symbolic move.  The family planning provisions are just one small … More

    Cato Fights Back

The Cato Institute sought to make clear where they and the world’s smartest economists stand on the Pelosi-Reid-Obama Debt plan by running a full page ad in the New York Times, Washington Post and other major newspapers this week that includes 200 signatures from major economists who oppose the stimulus: Notwithstanding reports that all economists are now Keynesians and that we all support a big increase in the burden of government, we do not believe that more government spending is a way to improve economic performance. More government spending by … More

How Many Will Lose Health Insurance Because of SCHIP Expansion?

State Children’s Health Insurance Program (SCHIP) is the federal-state welfare program to provide health insurance for poor children. The House recently passed a major expansion of SCHIP, which is now under consideration in the Senate. Most of the controversy surrounding this expansion has been related to eligibility. Nobody opposes health care for poor children, but the House has removed two critical requirements. First, they removed the requirement to be poor. Second, they removed the requirement to be a child. That’s right – the bill allows states to raise the income … More

    DeMint Laments ‘Business As Usual’

WASHINGTON – Senator Jim DeMint (R-SC) offered long term solutions for the ailing economy today at the Conservative Bloggers’ Briefing held at The Heritage Foundation. Before a packed house, with FOX News cameras rolling, DeMint clarified what is necessary to create economic growth: providing an environment in which businesses are ready, willing and able to take economic risks. “The [businesses] who really create the jobs would laugh at [the current stimulus plan], because what they need is to be able to look out 5, 10, 15 years to see a predictable … More

And The Winner Is…The Hollywood Elite

Just in time for the Oscars, the Pelosi-Reid-Obama Debt Plan has tabulated the results, opened the envelope, and announced the winner is…wealthy Hollywood donors. An idea so far fetched, it could only have been produced in the late hours following the Golden Globes.  $246 million has been earmarked in tax breaks for movie studios that want to purchase film equipment, such as movie cameras and film. According to National Journal, the tax breaks would enable companies to write off the cost of 50 percent of equipment for Hollywood blockbuster movies.  … More

    Global Warming is Irreversible

Global warming skeptics generally fall into four camps. 1.) We are in a period of global warming just as we could enter a period of global cooling in the future. 2.) The earth is warming but it’s not attributed to man-made activities. 3.) There is some truth to man-made warming but it falls far short of being a crisis. 4.) Global warming is real, man is considerably causing the problem, but there’s nothing we can do about it. Climatologists from the U.S. National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration released report that … More

Why the Left Loves to Waste Taxpayer Money

Earlier this month we asked, “Why Is the Left So Eager to Waste Money?” Last night on the News Hour, Dean Baker, co-director of the Center for Economic and Policy Research, was nice enough to explain it to us: JEFFREY BROWN: All right. Well, let’s talk about the stimulus package that is on the table, and the battle has clearly been joined now. Dean Baker, what do you see as the key thing that must happen to get jobs out of the stimulus package? DEAN BAKER: Well, basically, to put … More

    41%

Remember when leftist groups like the Center for American Progress were denying the CBO had a report debunking the claim’s of The Pelosi-Reid-Obama Debt Plan? Turns out that report DOES EXIST! President Barack Obama has promised that 75% of the money from the stimulus package will be pumped into the economy by Sept. 30, 2010. Well, according to the very real CBO report only 41% of the government purchases in The Pelosi-Reid-Obama Debt Plan occurs in the first two years. Sounds like a thorough debunking to us.
