  • In Their Own Words: Speaker Nancy Pelosi on "Family Planning" Stimulus

Introducing a new feature, where we will give you the most surprising quote from the Sunday news shows. This week’s quote is courtesy of Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) on ABC’s This Week with George Stephanopoulos:

STEPHANOPOULOS: “Hundreds of millions of dollars to expand family planning services. How is that stimulus?”

PELOSI: “Well, the family planning services reduce cost. They reduce cost. The states are in terrible fiscal budget crises now and part of what we do for children’s health, education and some of those elements are to help the states meet their financial needs. One of those – one of the initiatives you mentioned, the contraception, will reduce costs to the states and to the federal government.”

STEPHANOPOULOS: “So no apologies for that?”

PELOSI: “No apologies. No. we have to deal with the consequences of the downturn in our economy.”

    1. Ozzy6900, CT (The Bl says:

So Nancy Pelosi's remedy is contraception? Please tell us how you are going to control that one? This is a very dangerous person to have in charge of anything!

    2. William Lulias, St. says:

Too bad for us her parents didn't practice contraception.

    3. John Theobald, Marie says:

So this goes along with funding children's healthcare by using higher taxes from smokers…

By introducing contraceptives, we'll have fewer future tax-payers and entrepreneurs and achievers and therefore that will save us all money. It makes perfect sense to me.

By the way, great comeback George … you really showed us all how tough you can be on your Government. Jeeeez!!!!

      Thomas Jefferson wrote:

"It behooves every man who values liberty of conscience for himself, to resist invasions of it in the case of others: or their case may, by change of circumstances, become his own."

    4. Suzanne in Denton, T says:

I do not want my tax dollars spent for family planning, abortions, or birth control. What an outrage. Just like I don't want my tax dollars supporting irresponsible women whose only contribution to the world is a vastly increasing number of illegitimate children, both of whom are terrible drains on the national economy. When are the politicians going to realize, and act upon the fact, that if you take away the incentives and rewards for bad behavior, the bad behavior will decrease significantly. No free money, housing, food, education, et al. if you have had children without benefit of marriage. Take a hike.

    5. Suzanne in Denton, T says:

George is a Democrat and a wuss. What else could he say with out being punished for it? Listen to FOX.

    6. Greybeard says:

Read Mark Steyn's "America Alone…" and see the inevitable effects of such a wrong-headed belief and policy. Most of Europe is dying to western civilization and being co-opted by Islam because most European members of the EU are reproducing BELOW replcaement rate (2.1 children per woman). We, in the U.S. are hanging right at that replacement rate. In other words, unless every woman bears (legitimately,we pray) 2.1 children, the population will shrink…except, of course, when immigants make up the difference.

Pelosi et al, will reduce the number of native-born children in favor of…what? More illegal immigrants from Mexico? More Muslims from hwo-knows-where? Either way, American culture, along with the rest of Western Civilization will gradually fade to non-existence.

As William from Florida wrote prior to me, it's too bad Nancy Pelosi's parents didn't practice birth-control…although there would no doubt be another "useful idiot" in her place.

    7. Kent, Virginia says:

We need industry in the U.S. Simple. Not easy perhaps. But simple. Industry means more real jobs. We can't rely on service industry jobs to help us in this global economy. We can't rely on government jobs either. Those paychecks and retirements (and entitlements) come out of our pockets. And our pockets are empty!

Why aren't we hearing more about encouraging actual industry that will provide career positions, that will keep our money at home, that will see us through challenging times. There's not much else that's going to help.

I'm not great with math and subjects like economics. Yet the problem seems evident to me. Too many imports, too few exports, too many businesses gone from our shores.

Contraception solving our economic crisis??? I guess you could say Obama's plan to spend our way to prosperity is like a permanent Botox injection to the economy.

Term limits, PLEASE!!! Get rid of career politicians.

Our Federal Govt. is the "Peter Principle" in action. We are seeing a whole group of "liberal fascists" who have finally achieved their highest level of incompetence.

    8. Marshall Hill-Michig says:

Here we have BOY George doing what he does best!

Ask a Question, and hope she won't yell at me!

      What a man!

    9. Barb -mn says:

      Dear Ms. Pelosi,

You appear to have had a beautiful look at some time ago… ugliness has taken hold. Let people pay for their dutiful, PERSONAL responsibilities, let them control their own planned parenthood and pay their rightful expenses of their choice that leaves consequence. You really think they're gonna listen to you? Free condoms? Free birth control? Did you're parents bring you up under government welfare due to their neglect and irresponsibilities?

Get your ugliness out of my pockets!

    10. Spiritof76, New Hamp says:

Comrade Pelosi would perhaps wants to institute one child per family like they have in China, a country most of our liberal fascists love. She may want to think about a way to dispose of our senior citizens so that Medicare and SS can be rescued! Just think, we elect these morons.

    11. kENNETH bURFIRD, McA says:

Nancy Pelosi and the rest of the liberal people in Congress are idiots. They abhor the death sentence for the criminal that comits murder, but incourage the murder of babies. What a bunch of evil idiots.

    12. Pat, Indiana says:

This is not what I want America to become, a nation where innocent babies are killed yet terrorists and other criminals who deserve to be killed are kept alive. How can you be pro abortion and against the death penalty at the same time? Don't be fooled; this bone he's throwing is all about abortion; you can get free contraceptives at any planned parenthood. Obama's reign has so far been disastrous, I can't determine which issue is the most upsetting to me there's so many of them, but this might be it. And Pelosi had the nerve to say it's about REDUCING costs!!! All of the other things they could do to cut back on spending and they choose to fund the killing of innocent human beings. This is a nightmare. I never dreamed he would push this hard left agenda.

    13. Matthew, Virginia says:

Wow. You know Nancy could of practiced what she is preaching. She has something like five kids and three of them have children. The Nazi party practiced the same technique. Does anyone remember what it was called?

    14. Dennis Social Circle says:

This thinking is just one of the many reasons this country is falling to the whims of socialism. How do these people get in this position and advocated their dumb line of thought.

    15. Mike, Hickory, NC says:

Translation: "Money and power! Money and power! Any excuse for more money and power!", spoken by a true Leftist government elitist (Pelosi, in this case).

But of course we've been warned against such government elitists as Obama, Reid, Pelosi, and Co.

"Most bad government has grown out of too much government" (Thomas Jefferson)

"Government big enough to supply everything you need is big enough to take everything you have…The course of history shows that as government grows, liberty decreases" (Thomas Jefferson)

So also, "Government is not a solution to our problem, government is the problem". (Ronald Reagan)
