  • Morning Bell: Obama's Undemocratic Plan to Tax Everything You Do and Send the Money to Kuwaiti Millionaires

Despite the 5,800 miles between them, events yesterday in Poznan, Poland, and Sacramento, California, shed a frightening light on the direction President-elect Barack Obama’s administration wants to take our country on energy policy. First in Poznan, Sen. John Kerry (D-MA) promised delegates at an international climate conference that “Congress and the president-elect are committed to movement on mandatory goals as rapidly as possible.” According to Obama’s transition website, the preferred enforcement mechanism for these mandatory goals would be a cap-and-trade system for greenhouse gas emissions, which any honest economist will tell you is really just a energy tax dressed up in drag. Meanwhile, in Sacramento, the unelected California Air Resources Board approved “the nation’s most sweeping plan to reduce global warming by curbing emissions.” Like Obama’s plan, California’s plan features “an elaborate cap-and-trade program” at its core.

What makes California’s cap-and-trade plan so scary is that voters never had, and never will have, an opportunity to debate and vote on its implementation. The plan is being implemented entirely through the administrative process. None of the members of California board has ever, or will ever, face the voters. They are appointed by the governor.

Could a similar thing happen on the federal level? Yes. Obama has already signaled he will pursue a similar route. Earlier this month he appointed two co-chairmen to his EPA transition team who are leading advocates of using authority from the Clean Air Act to implement a national cap-and-trade system through the EPA without congressional approval. In fact, the EPA has already begun that rule-making process. The plan would invasively regulate every sector of the American economy, ultimately cost 2.9 million manufacturing jobs and reduce aggregate gross domestic product by $6.9 trillion by 2029. The EPA does not take a position on whether the allowances of the cap and trade plan will be given away or auctioned off. But with liberals in charge, it is almost guaranteed cap and trade will be treated as a government cash cow.

What will Washington do with all the revenue from this new massive energy tax? For that answer, we must travel back to Poznan where the delegates from the world’s developing nations continue to refuse to make any firm commitments to reduce their greenhouse gas emissions unless developed countries, the United States chief among them, pony up the cash to ease the economic hardship all carbon emission reduction entails.  Mexico made headlines with its promise to reduce emissions by 50% by 2020. But reading deeper we learn from the Washington Post (emphasis added):

Fernando Tudela, Mexico’s vice minister of environment and natural resources, emphasized the need for financial help from richer nations. At a news conference Thursday, he said that Mexico will set “aspirational goals” but that the extent to which they would be met “will depend on the kind of support we can find in the international regime.”

In other words: Mexico isn’t cutting anything until the United States cuts them a check first. And that is where the carbon tax funds come in. Energy and Environment Daily reports that assuming any U.S. cap-and-trade regime auctions off its credits, it “could generate billions of dollars in new revenue that could be shared with developing countries as incentives for making their own commitments.” And just who are these developing countries that hard-working Americans will be sending their money to? Thanks to antiquated definitions still used by the United Nations, wealthy nations like Singapore, Kuwait, and Qatar are all not only exempt from the more stringent carbon caps that “rich” nations face, but are also eligible for any funds “poor” countries would receive from any international treaty on climate change.

As our economy struggles to recover, our leaders should be working to lower our energy costs and develop our own natural resources, not enacting complex regulatory schemes that will crush our economy and send our hard-earned money overseas.

Take the money off them, as they do not know what they do…

    2. Josh Ollenberger, CA says:

Maybe a mass boycot would get the message through that we will not stand for these rediculous taxes. I for one will not pay any fine they levy under this type of regulation.

    3. Walt in El Paso, TX says:

The people voted for a socialist, let them feel the sting for four years.

    4. Mary, Wisconsin. USA says:

Are we looking at the return of the stone age? I won't have enough money to buy a club! The fair tax would at least put some of us on the same playing field as Oprah, NBA and NFL players who have 2 or 3 mansions, multiple $100,000 vehicles. People write off all their taxes with phony corporations, everything from heat, lights, telephone (cell phones also) office equipment, furniture, clothing, luxury vacations (corporate meetings) Look into these. All they need is a warm body to receive their phone calls and mail!

Honest tax payers like me want to give up and let the government support me! Illegals get that money, why shouldn't I?

    5. jjay - Louisville, K says:

Why not take a break from condemning everything in sight or associated with the new President-Elect. He might actually do somethings which help your cause(s) if you just take a breath and hold on to your seething anger for a bit – or just let it go and see how much better you feel.

It's definitely good to question authority, however, there is a difference between questioning and condemning before the fact, especially the tax issue which you and others insist on misrepresenting.

The focus of this tax incentive is for those who have NOT been paying a fair share, so they BEGIN to do so, in order that the rest of us DO NOT have to continue bearing the load for those making more than $200,000 per annum.

How many of your readers make that kind of annual salary?

Free enterprise DOES NOT mean you do not have responsibilities to help support the infrastructure that helps you make your big bucks. If you make more than most of us, you also pay more, NOT get more tax breaks BECAUSE you have benefitted from our system in the first place.

Get real AND stop spreading half truths as if it is your 'honorable' duty to do so.

obama is a vacant soft spoken menace whose ultimate power will be drawn from abroad.i dont buy a green product and the entire concept is insulting to any one with a brain function greater than a house cat. it tells us to put a noose around our own necks. you have to invite the vampire in according to ledgend and parable. well well here he is. i refuse the noose and we still have a second ammendment by the by.are they allowed weapons in europe or free speech on radio airtime.no one allows us to be free we have a right to it and that being said to fight for it is a patriotic duty and quite in line with the founders intent.

    7. Jay B.Bisbey, LTC,US says:

Obama and his bunch of Chicago thugs are going to bankrupt the country. Just take a hard and close look at the bunch of "Greens" he intends to appoint to the Environmental "Protective" Agency….that will tell you where he is giong with policy. Jb

    8. Michael J O'Bri says:

Lawrence Livermore Laboratories has discovered the heaviest element yet known to science. The new element, Governmentium (symbol=Gv), has one neutron, 25 assistant neutrons, 88 deputy neutrons, and 198 assistant deputy neutrons, giving it an atomic mass of 312. These 312 particles are held together by forces called morons, which are surrounded by vast quantities of lepton-like particles called peons.

Since Governmentium has no electrons, it is inert. However, it can be detected, because it impedes every reaction with which it comes into contact. A tiny amount of Governmentium can cause a reaction that would normally take less than a second, to take from 4 days to 4 years to complete.

Governmentium has a normal half-life of 2 to 6 years. It does not decay, but instead undergoes a reorganization in which a portion of the assistant neutrons and deputy neutrons exchange places.

In fact, Governmentium's mass will actually increase over time, since each reorganization will cause more morons to become neutrons, forming isodopes. This characteristic of moron promotion leads some scientists to believe that Governmentium is formed whenever morons reach a critical concentration.

This hypothetical quantity is referred to as critical morass.

When catalyzed with money, Governmentium becomes Administratium (symbol=Ad), an element that radiates just as much energy as Governmentium, since it has half as many peons but twice as many morons.

If you go online and google: fax and emails of U.S. Congress you'll get a list of all our "leaders" (yuck!) Simply make up a letter like I did last year on immigration or oil and start sending them.—tell your friends to.

    10. Mike Sheahen, Hickor says:

For years now I could see it comming, a "One-World (Socialist) Government. I was just hoping that maybe…just maybe both my "Baby-Boomer generation" of Conservatives, and "Generation X" Conservatives in the U.S., and Freedom-lovers elsewhere, would see it too; stand up, and finally put a stop to it, or at least slow it down enough to buy the next generation enough time to wake-up, see it comming, and stop it before freedom is gone and it's too late.

However, with such things as the recent U.S. Presidential election, riddled with voter fraud and bought by "the biggest Democrat (Socialist) spender"; the Leftist-controlled U.S. Congress on a Governement take-over binge; Vladimir Puten following-suit in Russia, and such as Comrade Senator Kerry's "Promises in Poland", evidently "the brakes are off" and we're being dragged into the final plunge down into Socialism in which "everybody will be equal", alright, everybody except government will be broke!

    11. Michael J O'Bri says:

Indeed John, everyone should wwrite! But also tell the good guys that they stand with us!

    12. Darrel Baird, Kent says:

How about throwing out the IRS,Income tax,AND Tax Stratigest .

A Federal sales tax (unprepaired food exempt)would be the fairest tax .If you save you create a capital base.If you spend you create a market.

those that are really inpoverished would pay no taxes on food.Go to McDonalds and pay a tax. Go to the grocery store and pay no tax.

BUT the best reward would be that the government couldn't take from the productive and give to the non-productive.YOU decide what tax to pay or not pay!

Savings bonds are a great example of government stupitity. You get almost no intrest and then pay taxes on the intrest that you did get. The net gain is almost always less than inflation. Boy, thats a real incentive to save!

    13. Duke Lynch CA says:

    16. Gilbert, Largo says:

What are you afraid of? Any way CO2 taxes will be paid out.: either "directly" if an industry is polluting, but there are systems made in USA to avoid such pollutions; either by contributing to decrease the environment standard.

In 1931 air contained 21.2% of Oxygen, nowadays this is reduced to 20.8%.

If we continue polluting the same way our children and grand-children will pay the tax when they already born with a debt of $30,000.

If industries are now threaten to pay the CO2 tax, maybe they will find it far cheaper to use the national systems to avoid polluting and be then happy to be able to sell their Kyoto rights to emerging countries as China, India, etc.

Such taxes, which could be avoided by the industries, are in fact a help to restore an already manhandled economy.

    18. MC Draheim, TEXAS says:

Why are talking while our country is getting the set-up? Oust Obama. He is a "plant". Corrupt from his birth. An imposter is in the White House. WeatherChannel.com has a lawsuit against Al Gore about "Global Warming" hoax. We breathe out CO2; plants need it for photosynthesis, remember your biology class, people!! In GOD we trust is our call to action. We may be subjected to no freedom of emails, too. Some of my emails are not sending; returned undeliverable. Key words are read and screened; like this website, perhaps. We have had freedom too long and gone too far with it for no one to take our talk seriously. So let's just talk. Wait and see with the rest; what Obama means by saying, "We all have to sacrifice."

    19. W Howard Baker, Bard says:

WHY ARE YOU SURPRISED? Obama is a fascist and doesn't have a democratic bone in his body. This man was mentored by a communist as a child and then had a Muslim stepfather who indoctrinated him into Islam, which denigrates democracy. Then he studied Saul Alinsky and his "Rules for Radicals" while falling in with the terrorists, Bill Ayres and his wife, and the radical preacher, Rev. Wright, who married him and baptized his children.

Barack Hussein Obama will institute a fascist government so fast it will make your head swim. Not only will the people that didn't support Obama wonder what hit them but also his supporters, who, obviously, had no idea of what was coming since they, when polled, knew nothing about Obama.

    20. Thomas Gray South Ca says:

      CONTACT your Representative !!!

    21. Barb -mn says:

Love the commentary on Lawrence Livermore's Laboratories!

People of the world, it is the POWER HUNGER OF American and most world governments that is keeping everyone from the freedom to prosper. From "freedom" altogether.

Man cannot control nature. Nature controls man. As by NATURE we don't live forever and never did. The earth has natural resources, man has the natural intelligence to utilize natural resources for the ability to survive nature's effects and the common good of productivity and quality of life of mankind. THE USE OF NATURAL RESOURCES IS SIMPLY NOT KILLING ANYONE OR ANY LIVING THING.

Nature is nature, natural resources are natural resources, mankind is natural, pollution derived from natural resources is natural and man is adaptable to the pollutants of nature, MAN MADE GLOBAL WARMING IS UNTRUE. Stay strong not to give into the indoctrination.

On countless occasions I have contacted my reps but they're democrat socialists. Contradicting aren't they. Unable to grasp equality, common sense, logic or anything that makes sense. In other words, anything American.Thank you to the ones we have, we know there are MORE good men of the world to stand firm on truth, dignity, integrity and RESPECT to all human life, who will not interfere with the right of freedom.

Sincere thanks for all efforts that stand on truth.

    22. Kenneth, GA says:

The problem with people who speak of the environment is they have no real understanding of natural variation, ala Gilbert, Largo. Is this a statistically significant difference or natural variation? You are taking a snapshot in time and there are many more factors involved. The vast majority of CO2 is made buy (drum roll please) – natural causes. Man made CO2 accounts for less than 1/10%. Let's not jump off the deep end. This could be far more dangerous than making pragmatic decisions about how to approach the situation of reducing pollutents. We ALL want a clean environment for our kids which makes it an emotional decision but fact and common sense have to prevail. Is our water and air not cleaner than it was 30 years ago (will the average temperature is cooler). 30 years ago we were headed toward an ice age. The political chirping is not about doing the right thing it's about money and that's want Mexico wants, greenbacks.

jjay, Louisville – He who hesitates is lost. We all know once government policy (politicians with new found powers) is set, it is very difficult to undo.

    23. Ralph Cavolo says:

Ok so let me get this straight- Clinton never inhaled and the entire Democratic party never exhaled? All the rest of us are going to tranfer our wealth every time we breath-How the the church miss this money maker- beats the hell out of indulgences don't it Oye. Does this mean Asthmatics and Obscene phone callers will be taxed at a higher rate

    24. Dennis Aderholt Soci says:

This is not hard to believe, after all look who he has surrounded himself with. Kerry-no nothing do nothing, Clinton- chief crook and no bottle washer. Also on Meet the Press one of obamas people made the statemant that on 1/20/09 he would"RULE". Lets see if that statement proves to be correct.

    25. Cybergeezer says:

It's getting harder to find anything of substance to tax which hasn't already been taxed, so now they're trying to tax the intangible. Any day now, there will be a tax on expressing our opinion in any comments section if we are not registered with an approved state or federal agency.

Ah, yes; The snake oil salesman of the 21st century!

    26. John, KCMO says:

It's coming to the point where armed insurrection may be necessary. We don't want a war–nobody wants a war–but since "the power to tax involves the power to destroy," violence may be the only way to bring the swine in D.C. to heel. The big test of the Second Amendment (all bow) may be coming sooner than we expect.

    27. Kenny, NC says:

"It’s coming to the point where armed insurrection may be necessary."

The violence and anger displayed in this comments section is evidence of a complete and utter lack of reason.

    28. John, KCMO says:

"…evidence of a complete and utter lack of reason."

Using my point above to found those comments shows that you still have not fully grasped the meaning of the American Revolution.

Nobody wants to go that far, it's plain.

When nothing else gets the attention of the ruling class, what else is left?

George Washington, Samuel Adams, Ben Franklin, et.al. were able to grasp the necessity of that drastic step.

Only a true heir of their legacy will be able to do so today.

      The Global Warming Hoax!

Does anybody in their right mind believe that Al Gore is spending $300,000,000 of his money for the betterment of mankind? Al is spending that money for propaganda aimed at convincing us that global warming is real and not science fiction. If carbon emissions by humankind cause global warming, then Al Gore's quest is hopeless. A single volcanic eruption can emit more carbon than man can emit during his entire time on this planet. I always follow the money trail.

Well Gee Whiz, look what I found!.Al Gore is Chairman & Founder

of a private equity firm called,Generation Investment Firm,(GIM).

It seems that GIM invests money in companies that lean towards being green. The color green meaning the predominant color in the environment & money. Al gore's big money scheme is based on the sale of carbon credit's,a.k.a.,carbon offset's. Please, for your own future,do your homework. Regards to all.QF

    30. quantumfoam/townvill says:

I apologize for a recent verbal slip in a comment titled,The Global warming Hoax. I called Al Gore's super money maker, by the name of, Generation Investment Firm,.I should have correctly called it,Generation Investment Management, aka GIM. Sorry/

    31. Edwin Buck, Albuquer says:

We can all moan and groan and complain about what St Barack is going to do and when he's going to do it, but the fact remains, elections have consequences. What did any one expect? that St Barack will all of a sudden renigue on his promises and everyone will sing Kumbaya, and everyone will laugh and joke about what the Messiah has done. Hardly. All I can tell you all is, hold on to what you've got, hide it if you can, because St Barack is coming with a steam shovel and scoop all the money available, whether we like it or not.
