One Response to Video: Feulner on the State of the Conservative Movement

    1. Spiritof76, New Hamp says:

Although I enjoyed reading the speech by Mr. Feulner and the optimism that he exuded, I am somewhat pessimistic that the country will turn around now. First, a large segment of our population feels that a heavy-handed government following Marxist policies are acceptable. Entitlement mentality whose seeds were sown by FDR has now grown to monstrous proportions poised to snuff out the founding principles of individual liberty and private property rights. The main stream media has usurped the First Amendment protection to lash out at Conservatives, the US and its founding principles so that they can advance the socialist causes. This time, more drastic actions may be required to bring the country back to its moorings.

The revolution against the British rule in 1776 did not have the support of the majority of the population. There were outright loyalists and some on the sidelines wishing to work out the dispute with Britain, rather than take up arms to oppose them. Our revolutionary war was in some sense our first Civil War. Loyalists and the supporters of revolution fought battles. Properties of the loyalists were confiscated and they were driven out of the country.

I don't think people today have the singular compelling motivation to go to that extent to rescue the Republic. For example, when the leftist government imposes radio censorship there will be a whimper of protest but acquiescence in the end. When the card check becomes a law we will all advocate civility with our feeble protests. That is why, I think that it will be very difficult to reconstruct the country on its Constitutional foundations again.
