  • Charlie Gibson is Utterly Alien

Speaking at the Voters Values Summit, Newt Gingrich lit into Charlie Gibson and ABC News for their “stunningly distorted interview” of Gov. Sarah Palin last night. Gingrich focused his criticism on Gibson’s butchering of a Palin quote about U.S. policy in Iraq. Here is how Gibson butchered Palin’s quote last night:

GIBSON: You said recently, in your old church, “Our national leaders are sending U.S. soldiers on a task that is from God.” Are we fighting a holy war?

Here is what Palin actually said:

Pray for our military. He’s [Palin's son Track] going to be deployed in September to Iraq. Pray for our military men and women who are striving to do also what is right for this country – that our leaders, our national leaders are sending them out on a task that is from God. That’s what we have to make sure we are praying for, that there is a plan and that that plan is God’s plan.

When Palin explained that she was paraphrasing Abraham Lincoln, Gibson was flummoxed. Gingrich told the audience, “It is another sign of just how bad things are in elite media and how utterly alien they have become to the rest of America.”
Gingrich then went on to quote from John F. Kennedy’s Inaugural address:

[T]he same revolutionary beliefs for which our forebears fought are still at issue around the globe—the belief that the rights of man come not from the generosity of the state, but from the hand of God.

Finally, whether you are citizens of America or citizens of the world, ask of us the same high standards of strength and sacrifice which we ask of you. With a good conscience our only sure reward, with history the final judge of our deeds, let us go forth to lead the land we love, asking His blessing and His help, but knowing that here on earth God’s work must truly be our own.

Gingrich then asked rhetorically: “Imagine if today’s media had been covering Kennedy back then. They would have called him a fanatic.”

Gingrich closed: “The reason this matters so much is because it is time to teach American history accurately. Let’s have every child in America learn in elementary school that we are endowed by our creator with certain inalienable rights. Then we can let them debate what they thought the founders meant when they put ‘our creator’ in the Declaration of Independence. They meant God.”

When will the country wake up. What you guys constantly call "THE LEFT" is actually "SOCIALIST" and they have ruined the Demorcrat party. They couldn't win as a party of their own, so they infiltrated the Demorcrat party and the media and now control both.

It is amazing to me that it is "news" if a politician references God or the Creator. It is more amazing that the american public puts its reasoning, validity and political beliefs in reporters such as Gibson, Matthews and the like. Worse, the american public seems to put the same reasoning, validity and belief structure in movie actors and performers and outspoken athelets as though they are an informed bunch in the know. Hope America wakes and starts thinking on its own again. Leadership, truthful leadership is much more more than empty rhetoric and the absence of God. Thank you Mr. Speaker for setting the record straight.

I agree with Jeff in St. Louis that the policys and philosiphy of the Democratic party has become Socialist in nature. When you break down what they push and plan to do it is nothing more that moving out "God" and increasing Government control. It's one thing to choose to not believe, that is what is great about our country..you can. But when you try to deny our foundation and that our founding fathers built this country on faith in God then you do become a traitor. Charlie Gibson was simply disgusting in his manner and I'm glad this election has brought out what's been hiding in the media for so long.

    4. Bruce Dettra; New Sm says:

It should come as no surprise that Charlie Gibson or any other mainstreet "journalist" would try to misrepresent a quote from Goveror Palin. Much of the media stopped reporting facts a long time ago. Nowdays, they produce propaganda. What we should be excited about is that Governor Palin didn't let Charlie Gibson get away with it this time. Her conservative message is getting out in spite of media obsticles. Keep it coming Govenor Palin!

    5. P. Krause says:

I agree that the media produces propaganda and refuses to divilge the facts about Obama. It angers me a great deal that they have the audacity to TELL the American people who will be our president!!! I had a whole different idea about what America is and what the RESPONSIBILITY of the media should be. Quite frankly I'm ashamed of the media and it seems more like a police state than a democracy!!

    6. Anton Stahl, Cooper says:

Charlie Gibson simply came over as a "Bully" in his interview with Governor Palin. It didn't work.

      She's too bright for him.

    7. Brenda, California says:

I am feeling so angry and frustrated with what I really consider has been for sometime now a take over of the media and the Democratic Party, as a Republican and very conservative, the socialist agenda in America that seems to be spreading among all of us is not the future we want for our children and grandchildren. Only if we unite against any threats to our constitution, the right to include God, and the strength to not be afraid to speak the truth, to teach our children the true history of our world despite the fact that we might OFFEND the people that want desparately to destroy America and bring us to our knees.

I feel much better reading these reviews and knowing that there are many true Democrats, Republicans, and believers in the America that I can't bear to see disappear. When we see God, crosses, pride in our military, our vote washed in fraud —— then SOCIALISM is so much closer than we ever knew. It is time to take our country back.

I agree with Jeff in St. Louis.
