Darvin-

Take a look at the history of Mexico's national oil company PEMEX. They are a huge employer, probably the largest in the nation. As their gulf wells peter out, those workers will be streaming into the U.S. We need a strong energy policy that takes into account the resources of our neighbors, as well as our consumption patterns. Rebuilding our economy is not necessarily about using more energy, it's about using what we have more intelligently. There's a lot of fat and waste to cut from the system. Let's start with the cheap and easy things first. That's what I want to hear from the candidates.

I love Sarah "but" we have to win on 11/4/08 first. People are all caught up in their emotions right now and have forgotten that. We haven't won this election yet. There is still a huge segment of former GOP voters who have not been swayed by the Palin nomination. And we will need them back in the fold. Unfortunately Sen. McCain, "W" and the GOP Hierarchy have burned a lot of bridges that will have to be rebuilt. The largest bridge being the one between the GOP and Middle Americans who still believe in the concept of Sovereign Borders. Those who've suffered greatly as a result of the out-of-control invasion across the southern border. The GOP under George W. Bush allowed our southern border to be breached. To this day he doesn't understand the extreme seriousness of this shortfall. Nor does McCain.

There's still time but my advice to the McCain/Palin campaign would be to get down and shore up the border states. Especially Texas with its 34 electoral votes. A lot of angst/anger down here. Texas is purpling and may go blue.

It amazes me that we can spend a billion a week on terrorism. but nothing is done to shore up the family unit, improve heath care and educate our children. and then insult us with a $600 rebate. to stimulate us to buy. buy what, gasoline. ahhhh now i get it.
go to the window open the window etc. etc.

Sarah was not a conservative mayor of Wasilla. She wanted to ban books in the local library. She left Wasilla millions in debt when it was a solvent city when she took office. The needed infrastructure was ignored in favor of a recreation center. I believe she would be a disaster as president. In my opinion this was a huge gamble by a desperate candidate and it may prove to be a very, very unwise choice.

Now we're talking. V P Nominee Palin talked to me like no one has in the past....straight forward, with the right touch of humor, intelligence and beauty....all the while trying to adjust with a faulty teleprompter. Remember folks, it's all about salesmanship....taxes, the environment, human rights, abortion & methods are all crucial, but it's in the delivery that wins. I think the GOP has found a terrific salesman (saleswoman!).

Her comment on natural gas was a bit disingenuous. Most of the gas from the TransCanada Alaska Pipeline Project will terminate in the oilsands fields of Alberta. What is left over will then enter the American pipeline and shipped south. The synthetic crude produced with "our" Alaskan gas will then be put on the global oil market, for sale to the highest bidder. NAFTA requires that Canada send the U.S. approximately 60% of their natural gas production, but has no such language regarding crude oil.

I fail to see how this pipeline is very beneficial to continental Americans. Any revenue would likely benefit Alaskans direcly, who are already enjoying a budget surplus because of commodity prices. This appears to have been a tactic by the Republican leadership in AK to force gas leaseholders to bring methane under their lands to market. Seeing how global conventional gas production is declining somewhat, wouldn't it have been more prudent to send this gas through alternative pipelines to be constructed by BP or Chevron? Did it have anything to do with the Alaska Gasline Inducement Act? Of course TransCanada had the funds, they need to produce their tarsands no matter the political or national security costs. http://gov.state.ak.us/agia/

What a breath of fresh air we experienced last night when Sarah Palin electrified us with an outstanding speech. She was tremendous. A NATURAL who is all ours. She will become America's darling, if she isn't already. God Bless America!
