This article was quite insightful on the arms freeze in Taiwan. I am currently in Taiwan doing research on Taiwan-China cross Strait relations by compiling blogs/sources to understand the situation further. Another great site I recommend that relates to Taiwanese foreign policy and IR is here at the World Peace Forum as they have many articles and journals linked inside. Thanks for your time!

I aggree that it is in our best intrest to see an independent Taiwan and a China that is a democratic-republic where her people are not repressed. China is still pursuing the communist dream and Taiwan has been building politcal relationship with China. It wouldn't take much for China to take what she believes is Hers and tells the world, China is only protecting what is theirs. The technology that China would gain would help to strenthen her desire to be a military superpower. China then could pursue her communist goals with capital marketing to fund it. Time is on our side, Japan and other countries in the region are watching just as much and they need to help China realize that capitalism with freedom will make a better and stronger China.

This PacRim region is most important to the U.S. We can't allow it to slip away. The ChiCom's "can" be controlled. There is a strong business element there that doesn't want to upset their largest customer - us. We should all be in prayer that this element of the PRoC prevails and will keep their military on a short leash. As China moves more toward free market capitalism, it will also move to a more free society. As that happens tensions will relax between them and Taiwan. But until that time we must be steadfast in our support of Taiwan while at the same time encouraging both nations to work out their differences peacefully. DD
